Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

I can't drive an unmodified car. I even modify my RENTAL cars! Nothing major, of course, but always something. I usually unmod it before returning, but not always. Your car is an extension of who you are. Making mods illegal is like saying it's illegal to have a different opinion. I'm sure somebody ...

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

Like only Toyota, or only Mercedes, or only Subaru, etc. Most new cars are being designed to need specialized (physical and computer based) tools and training to do even the most basic work. When I got my Hunter alignment certification they told us we wouldn't be able to do alignments on any new Mer...

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

Towing got really busy, especially after Sandy when we were one of the few tow companies in the area that didn't close. We ran for a week without power when all the other companies just stayed at home. Service kept getting slower and slower, so when the last mechanic quit it didn't make sense to hir...

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

Well we went from a 6 bay mechanic shop that did towing on the side to being just a towing company. The boss is thinking about getting a single lift installed somewhere in the building, but it's not priority.

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

It just smells like the coolant that soaked into the carpet from the leaky heater core. The coolant was all brand new. It looks like there's a drain at the bottom of the box the heater core sits in that runs through a hose that's going through the metal. I'm assuming that's why it looked like coolan...

Because of the wet floor? I need to find a good way to clean that up.

Oh no, it wasn't a gallon a day... It was a gallon on my way to work, and another gallon on my way home! And it's only like 11 miles each way.

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

I'm glad I finally have heat again! I can actually turn on the fan without the entire car fogging up in 30 seconds. Yeah, back by the gas pedal where the clip holds it in place. The first time I went to try looking at the heater core I pulled out the clip thing and pulled the console out as far as I...

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

Woo hoo!!! It was like 65 degrees on Saturday so I swapped out the heater core. The old one was definitely leaking. After I removed it I filled it with water, plugged 1 hole and blew into the other hole and the water was spraying out the side. When I put in the replacement (which didn't have any of ...

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

I got a whole box of Harbor Freight hose clamps somewhere. Probably have a couple thousand zip ties too. I actually pulled the side of the console as far back as I could without breaking it and saw what I'm gonna be dealing with. Metal pipes, not hoses. I guess I should probably try to get those as ...

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

I ordered a new core and 2 hoses. They shipped out this morning. I'll be swapping those in when they arrive. Is there anything else I should buy just in case?

Re: I want to kick this cold weather in the fayse! (engine problems)

So I ordered a clutch slave, but I don't know if I'll be needing it. Last night on my way home from work I noticed my temp go way up into the red, so I pulled into a parking lot. I knew my coolant was low. I've had to add like a quart every couple days, and I hadn't added any in 2 days. When I open ...
