Re: Couple questions

Well that does confirm what I figured the cylinder was for. The car will be used for daily use along with autoX. Nothing too extreme, but it will see it's share of agressive driving. I am still curious why it's necessary, I have never heard of anything like his before on any car.

Couple questions

Ok so currently I am working on car that has been a project for almost a year now, and I am in the process of getting everything hooked up in the engine bay. I figured I would just post any questions I had here instead of making a bunch of different threads. So anyways, first thing is this: I decide...

Re: Shift rod hitting vibration damper?

Gotcha, the Bentley just said to make sure the joints were in the same plane, had I known there were 2 dots I just had to line up it would have been a lot easier! Thanks for the help and quick responses everybody.

Re: Shift rod hitting vibration damper?

Just did. Pulled both parts of the driveshaft off to line up the U-joints, anything special I need to know to make sure they are in the correct orientation?

Re: Shift rod hitting vibration damper?

Ok, so I just ran up to the car and took some pics, however they didn't turn out all that great. Here's the rear mount: http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt216/Nsquared97/E30/0726111417c.jpg And here's the shift rod hitting the damper: http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt216/Nsquared97/E30/0726111...

Re: Shift rod hitting vibration damper?

Great... well I'll look at it again and see if I can get a better understanding of what I screwed up. What does it take to replace that mounting plate?

Re: Shift rod hitting vibration damper?

Feel really dumb admitting this, but I never took the plate off. Didn't really do enough research when pulling the engine/trans/linkage out, and noticed that plate after the linkage had pulled out of it. I slid the linkage back into it yesterday, but maybe I damaged the plate? I'll take a look and s...

Re: Shift rod hitting vibration damper?

As far as the shifter goes, I'm pretty sure it was rebuilt, didn't think it was a short throw but its possible. I'm still in contact with the previous owner, so I'll get in touch with him and see. Thing is, its the same shifter and trans that was in the car before, and it worked just fine then. (Tru...

Shift rod hitting vibration damper?

Ok so I feel like a bit of a noob asking this, but I want to know if you guys can help me figure out whats going on. I just put the engine/trans back in my car yesterday (87 325is, all stock M20/G260) and now that everything is in, driveshaft and shift linkage all hooked up, the shift rod is hitting...

Re: The intro thread

Haha thanks guys! I am currently computer-less, just using school computers until my new one arrives sometime this week. Then I will make a nice long pic-filled build thread for you photo whores out there.

Re: The intro thread

Hey guys, new on here figured I would introduce myself. My name is Nick, I met Matt (ten2doyle) at an autoX a few weeks ago, told me about this site and it looks pretty good to me. I have an '87is project car I have been working on for a while now, starting to get close to having her done and runnin...
