yeah, I'll try to get a safe base tune done myself, but the real tuning will be done by a professional on a dyno. With the power I want to make there won't be any room for a bad tune.

well, one step forward, two steps back...

I got my MSQ to a point where I think I can start the car and get to tuning, that's the step forward.

This is the two steps back....

No way I'm using this hack job harness, its not even worth fixing. I'd have to redo the whole thing anyway, so I'm just going to get the DIY starter harness.

Question: The DIY website shows two starter harnesses, one for the main board and one for the expansion board. Do I need them both? I think only a few pins are used on the expansion board so can't I just make that harness from scratch, or would it be cleaner to run both harnesses together?

I'll be shaving a lot of the bay when I do the install so I want the harness to look as clean as possible.

I'd get both. The expansion harness is used for the spark outputs and such. All are prelabeled and predone. I hate crimping them and shit. Why go through all the hassle? Lately, I run full harnesses with just those two there and some relays. It makes things MUCH easier. IMO get both.

Do you use the 8' or 12' harness? Looks like the MS3x harness only comes in 12', but the main board harness comes in 8' or 12'.

12. I prefer to be safe than sorry. 8 should do it though.

Ordered both harnesses new from DIY! Pretty stoked to get going on this finally. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to start stripping the engine bay.

you using a relay board or making your own? The E30 M3 harness cover has a carrier spot for the factory relays

I know, I think I tossed the relay holder for my m3 harness cover though...what additional relays are needed?

Isn't there already relays for all of those except spark?

Right, but I can reuse the relays that are part of the stock harness. I was going to run the harness through the main relay panel under the hood, is that not how you did it? I mean, its already a fuel injected engine so the only fundamental difference is the spark outputs.

Relay panel? I ran all my stuff out from the ECU hole on the passenger's side. I added a 4th relay for the coil. I forget how stock did it but that thing draws enough power even with just the stock coil to need its own relay.
