Anyone know about turbo sizing?

Postby Yoshi » Thu Aug 04, 2011 1:01 pm

I'm debating on the EFR 7670 vs the EFR7064. The plot so far says 7670 but I might have plugged numbers in wrong. You can fudge the numbers to make anything look good if you try hard enough you know?

Wholly long link Batman!

Where are you getting these numbers? How do you figure out air filter restriction?

Why not just look at the 2 compressor maps and see which fits your needs?

Most of the numbers I left at their default values. Both turbos look to be about what I need. 1 just seems to choke more according to this application. I'm not sure I put in all the right numbers though.

1 bar. built for 2 but I need the reliability. 1 bar should get me to 500whp as is. That's more than I need.

1 bar will put you near the bottom of the maximum efficiency island on both maps, which may result in you not hitting either turbos peak performance or at least not until your near redline. Why not go with a slightly smaller unit to put yourself in the sweet spot of power and response? Just because the engine is built for 2 bar, that doesn't mean you need a turbo that would shine at 2 bar, you can always go bigger down tje road if you want more boost.

I thought about it but no other turbo matches anywhere close. Plus I'm stuck on the EFR turbos as I'm getting a fack load off of one and it has so many features on it I want. I'm ok with not maxing out the turbo. But if you plot 2 bar on it, I'll choke past 5k on either turbo. Despite the fact it looks "too big" I'm actually very much in it's useful range.

How are you plotting it? When I did a quick plot 5k fell right at the top edge of the peak performance island.

Ps. Can you truncate that link, posting in this thread on my phone is a pita.

I can truncate the link but then you won't have the info that I've already inputted into the page.

I calc the minimum lb/min and max lb/min then plot a straight line across them. 1 bar should be 2.1 on the Y axis all the way across.

Hmm, maybe my math is off, I did the same and didn't end up choking at 5k.

Can't you use tinyurl or something so the link stays, but the link name is shorter?

Much better, thanks.

I'll check my math at lunch and see if I get the results you got.
