ok ladies, lets talk setup.

Postby M20_fever » Fri Oct 02, 2009 12:32 pm

So I am finally at a point where I can start buying components but I'\m not 100% on what I need to get where I want to be.

Here is what I do know:

I'll be going with MS, though I'm sure which one, thinking ms2v3 fuel & spark.
Holeset turbo, either HX35 or HX35/40 hybrid.
FMIC (ebay)
LC1 WB02
unknown BOV & WG
unknown exhaust mani (likely ebay)
e36 TPS
injectors...not sure.

and...

comments?

I want to push this engine, so if I get less than 600chp I will be disappointed. That is a starting point, I plan to eventually incorporate a nitrous system into equation as well. Eventually I would like to take a crack at Limmets record, but that is down the road.

how many liters you got? hx35/40 might be a good shot. Injectors need to be sized for the power you aim for. So at least 70# sounds like it should give you what you need. Might want to wait for MS3 though. should be out soonish.

how much boost? Whats your comp ratio?

2.8 liter fully forged (except crank), welded/o-ringed head w/ ARPs & +1mm intake valves, OE size exhaust valves, full port/polish. CR is stock 8.8:1. I'll be buying my MS in Dec, if MS3 is out by then fine, if not I'll get MS2 and upgrade to the MS3 chip when it comes out. I want to eventually hit 30 psi, but lets say 20 to start (want room to up boost as I get bored :)). I talked to Dan Pinder and he is running over 21 on his MS with a 4 bar MAP sensor so I think I can get to 30 with little trouble.

i would say anything over 22ish would require some charge cooling (meth/water injection). *shrugs* but what do I know. I only aspired for 15psi lol.

well, I can settle for 20psi until I get the nitrous going, that should cool the charge a bit, no? :)

That's going to be one hell of a setup there! I think of anything of 15 psi more than enough for me, but shooting for 20psi+ should make for a really fun car!! :)

Yeah, I would really like to see this car hit the 9's in the 1/4 with full interior but that may be a stretch, even on wrinkle walls. I should start buying half shafts now, I'm going to need them.

yeah, that is end goal, it will take some time to get there. I think I can hit 11's no problem on pump gas to start. I'll have 2 tunes, 1 for street on 93 oct and 1 for track on 116 avgas. Its going to be a long road though since I will have to put money other places as I increase power, like a cage and fuel cell, exterior kill switch etc.

That would be extremely impressive boost for that engine (with 20 psi as a starting point)!

yeah I have been planning this build for a good while so I know the engine can handle it. It will be a several year journey but I will bring the most powerful M20 title to the United States. 8)

Have you looked at the PNP megasquirts?

What type of speed density/air measurement system are you planning to use. Stock AFM, MAS, Alpha-N, MAP input on MS?
