MVRK - DIY - 24V Oil Filter Housing and Gasket swap

Postby mvrk10256 » Sat Feb 04, 2012 9:25 pm

This DIY will cover replacing your OFH and the gasket. Most of you will not be replacing the unit itself but rather the gasket. I have had some issues that required a swap. Anyway its all here as usual .

*****DISCONNECT THE BATTERY*******

1. Intake boot/MAF/filter comes off.

2. Fan comes of. If mechanical use a 32MM wrench, if electric simply remove.

3. Belt comes off next - 8MM allen key

4.Remove the 10mm and 13mm nuts on the back of the alternator.

5. Remove alternator: - remove idler pully cap and remove using a 16mm or 5/8" socket, the bottom bolt is harder. I suggest a stationary socket in front, and a open wrench on the back. Use the wrench to ratchet it off.

6.REmove the top two bolts of steering pump (13mm)

7. Remove the bolts from the oil filter housing - They are different. The top of engine corresponds to right hand side of the picture, going down as you go left.

8.If your swapping housing remove the pully - 3 x 13mm bolts

9.Here is a series of comparison. The middle is a canadian NV OFH, The left is the weird one i had, and the right is a vanos M50 one.

10. The one I had had a weird valve in it.

Now just put it all back together. Good Luck.

can you change the title to 24v?

I've had to do this a few times... not fun at all.

This looks a hell of a lot easier for a M20.

Its not that bad. Worst part is the lower bolt on alternator. PITA.

For a couple of mods you guys are non intrusive. I added the 24V to the title.
