Sometimes they come off by hand. If they are stuck on and you cant turn it you can use a oil filter wrench. They are universal and pretty cheap. Ive had a few that were so crusty that I had to drive a small screw driver into it to use as a handle to get it off.

You SHOULD be able to take it off by hand....unless you've overtightened it before.

I haven't had any issues.
