Re: Trans kaput!
You can't shift it with the car off clutch in or out? Is the car parked on a flat surface or incline/decline?
Have you pulled the shift boot and looked at the plastic shift rod bushing? Could also be the body mount the carrier slides into broke, did you look at that?
Worst case, a good used g260 can be had for around $200-300.

Re: Trans kaput!
Its absolutely jammed stuck in reverse. Clutch in or out shifter wont budge. I havent gone into checking the linkage yet, but will. You know it feels like its linked to the trans just fine, but the selector rod is just stuck. Im almosy 100% its the trans itself.
I drove around the block and up into my driveway backwards lol. Dident strand me anywhere though, good girl!
Yeah, im a little hesitant of used though. I might get a MM rebuilt. aint cheap though but dam it should last forever and have zero problems. Dont know at this point for sure though. I can do a nice chunk of stuff on the car for $2500...
what would you do?

Re: Trans kaput!
I'd get a good used unit for a couple hundred bucks and spend the other 2k+ on other mods. The MM trans is really nice, don't get me wrong, but WAY overkill even for full sanctioned racing let alone autox. Look at Caswell, he ran the baja1000 with a stock g260.
Eventually the surplus of good used units will dwindle away, then we will be left with the choice to rebuild our current g260 for probably around $1500-2000 or swap a different trans in. At that point it might make sense to drop the extra few hundred on a MM box that will last forever.
Make sure to check the entire linkage assembly for damage or excessive wear first though, I've seen cases where the car seemed stuck in gear but it was just a broken linkage. G260s are damn near bullet proof, it takes a lot to break them internally.

True. Guess i'll keep an eye out for a used one. I can install it and try my hand at rebuilding the one I have.

Re: Trans kaput!
How much can you move your shifter around when in reverse? video of mine:

Re: Trans kaput!
Lol! That is definitely something broken in the linkage assembly. It shouldn't move more than a few mm when its in any gear, yours looks like its in neutral. Pull the boot off and look in there with a light, either the plastic carrier bushing fell out or the carrier its self broke.

Re: Trans kaput!

could also be the shear pin #18 broke and the whole assembly separated from the trans.

Re: Trans kaput!
Something in that diagram came off/broke, I would put money on it that the trans is fine. That top clip is a real pita with the trans in the car, might have to drop the crossmember and driveshaft to see or work on the top.

Re: Trans kaput!
You can just drop the csb and slide the shaft towards the diff at the slip yolk. It has enough travel to cone off the output shaft of the trans, then you can set it gar enough aside to drop the trans a bit. Loosen the motor mount bolts a little and drop the trans brace, the trans will drop enough to get at the top.

Re: Trans kaput!
Reached around under there, but where it connects transmission is visually obscured. however im pretty positive linkage is hooked up and its internally stuck just from feeling the parts and moving them with my hand.
Need to get some bigger jackstands this is fucked working on it 6" over my head. Have to drop exhaust then shaft. luckily the exhaust is relatively new so the bolt will come off.

Re: Trans kaput!
With that much shifter travel it has to be on the shift carrier assembly.

Re: Trans kaput!
We'll see when i remove all that shit in the way. there is some fresh looking oil dripping on the back of the trans. probably nothing to do with the problem. Trans is probably empty lol
