Axles

Postby -LSD- » Mon Jan 07, 2013 8:36 am

Hey guys, havent wrote in a while... i have a stupid question about axles
Does anyone have issues with axles? i keep getting headaches with a driver side axle.
its a third axle now. first two backed out all 6 bolts bent them and stripped them out ( used locktite both times) smh.
I honestly dont know what to think anymore. Right side is still original 20+ years old axle. but driver side just dont want to stay in my car.

Anyone ever ran into this issue, any info will be appreciated =)

did you use a small case diff on accident? Are you super low?

I converted to E36 diff bolts and haven't had a problem. I converted mainly for the torx instead of allen heads but they seem to work great.

yeah i am using small case on accident =) car is not super low. its lowered but i also have a raised subframe bushings so axles are perfectly straight. thats what bogging me.
I did have a med case originaly, after bolts stripped out i couldnt repair the threads on a flange so i got a small case from my buddy, who was running it in his m50 e30.

RED locktite =)

i honestly dont know what to think at this point =) just bought new axle + all new hardware form bmw...intalling this weekend...

might be wise to chase the threads in the case before trying to bolt it all back up.

small case diffs will always pull the axle out. you need axles from a small case IIRC.

i did chase threads and all that jazz....came out to be pretty good.

When i was about to drop small case in my car, i put it next to my medium case diff, the distance from a flange to flange looked identical, otherwise i wouldnt use it in a first place. Plus first broken axle was with med case...and... passenger side axle is still original...so im kind of confused on this one.

Anyways, i put everything back last night, track event coming up, will see whats gonna happen =)
