aother 1-piece driveshaft Q

Postby cream » Sun Feb 17, 2013 12:55 am

ive searched but saw noone running this one piece driveshaft. http://www.driveshaftshop.com/import...oly-driveshaft

i am fully aware of the custom one piece driveshafts from ix model design and ripping a hole through the floor but it looks like they took everything into consideration.

it looks like it is not a fully "one peice" however it looks like it replaces out the rubber guibo and the csb so its a solid 2 peice driveshaft. ive seen aluminum/poly bushings for the guibo but nothing on the csb

this is dd/drifting use. i was running a welded 3.73 when my driveshaft went out so im thinking it was from the welded.. or just old. so need a new one. BTW its a stock m20b25 about 280k on the motor and guessing driveshaft. in the future will eather stick with the welded, s3.73 or s4.10 4 clutch plate swap, or even save up $$$$ for kaaz or os giken

btw new to this forum, use r3v, and e30tech, and zilvia but i love it that yoshi drifts his e30 so let me introduce myself, my name is Deelo, i have a 89 325is m20b25/bilstein sport/H&r sports/IE hollow adjustable 25/23mm sways. i also own a 89 s13 ka24e/BC BR coils 8/6.

Welcome aboard! Your link seems to be broken. Is this http://www.driveshaftshop.com/import-dr ... driveshaft the driveshaft you were talking about? I'm looking for a new one myself, and would LOVE to get rid of the rubber flex disc once and for all. I'm already on my 3rd one and it's toast. The one in the link is a bit out of my budget though.

Wish I could offer you some help. To be honest I'm not quite sure what your actual question is. I'm sure someone here will be able to help out with whatever it is you need. Why don't you post some pics or info in the intro thread and start a build thread?

Hey Deelo!

I think it telescopes a bit. I guess that way so you can get it into the car without having to drop the subframe? I don't know.

Your drive shaft probably went out because of miles and age. I doubt it's from the welded.

Not sure what your question is though? Welcome!

welcome! Honestly, unless your putting down way big power numbers the stock driveshaft is fine. The weak point Ive found is the flex disc, so swapping in a revshift style disc is a good idea if your eating stock ones up. Ive shredded two rubber ones, and when the current one goes I'll be ordering a disc from revshift. How about some pics of your car??

although there's a thread going on at tech right now where the guy is having vibration issues with a rebuild DS. I think a new guibo/csb/DS Ujoint should be all anyone needs. I ran 500whp like that and it's still good.

I assume you've had one. Do they break or something?

Nah I haven't. You're simply making a flexing area non flexible. Poly doesn't like constant flexing. Plus I doubt that guibo is balanced properly. Revshift isn't known for quality.

Anyone here actually had any experince with these? I need to order a new one anyway, and they look like they would last at least a little longer than crappy yarn wrapped in rubber.

Yoshi is there really a lot of flex in that area? It doesn't seem there should be. I assumed they used that kind of setup to dampen the shifts a little so you wouldn't feel them as much. If the driveshaft came out of the tranny at an angle where there would be flex they would have used a U-joint, don't you think?

Thats what the ujoints are for. The flex disc is to reduce harmonic vibration, its more of a comfort thing. I haven't done a lot of research on the revshift unit, if it has quality issues I wouldn't hesitate to have an aluminum disc machined to make it a solid connection.

cream, thats a fine looking e30 you have there.

Their guibos aren't balanced. They simply machine them and mail them to you. So it is quite possible for the guibo itself to CAUSE vibrations. I don't trust their QC and every product of theirs that I've used hasn't worked well at all. Stupid 24v swap mounts.

you know stock flex discs are not balanced either? They are just fiber cord dipped in rubber, no balancing. Its the shaft halves that are balanced. I could see how a solid unit would need to be somewhat balanced, though I think it would need to be way off to cause a noticable vibration.
