Who wants to see what a glazed clutch looks like?

From the tranny down to wheel bearings.

Who wants to see what a glazed clutch looks like?

Postby Yoshi » Fri Mar 22, 2013 12:15 am

This is the pressure plate/clutch/flywheel off my old turbo motor that I ran for 10 miles in my red car. It slipped in any gear under any power. It wasn't THIS bad when I put it in but I figured it would hold 200whp. Apparently not?

Wow, that's bad! Did you break it in correctly? That's crazy.

I had this on my car when I had the M50 turbo. ~400whp went through this guy at one point. Then, I swapped transmissions and for some reason, I did something wrong and the clutch started to slip after a day of driving. Just getting it home cracked it a bit. I figured, it held 400whp, it's probably still good for NA power. So I kept it around. I shoved it into my S52 NA car a few weeks back. Sadly, it started to slip immediately and this is the result. Note to self, any cracks in clutch, throw it out.

I've made a conscious effort to get away from things like this :( I guess since it was free, there was no harm other than my time to swap out the clutch. Sucks but at least this way I have a 100% brand new clutch.

Got a random ebay kit that everyone with an M50 swap seems to run. Comes with a new flywheel and everything for <$500. Can't really argue with that.
