ABS unit delete?

Postby Yoshi » Tue Dec 27, 2016 2:38 pm

The brakes in my car suck balls. Before I swapped the master, the pedal required tons of effort to barely stop. I was told it was most likely due to my lack of a booster but I've driven cars with manual setups and mine just feels like poo.

I've replaced the lines and calipers and the master is factory fresh. I don't visibly see any collapsed/bent lines and the brakes bleed with ease. So I'm thinking maybe the ABS unit is shot.

Realistically, this should just be 2 T fittings and a line bender right? Why is the chasebay kit $300? And why does no one else make a kit.

Link to the kit? The ABS unit probably has proportioning valves that control brake bias, so just bypassing it will probably not be ideal. Maybe the kit has a bias valve with it?

Although that's the complete kit with master cylinder iirc.

I also think the master cylinder automatically proportions but that doesn't really matter in my case as the brakes are too weak so biasing is just weakening my braking more.

Googling it, this seems stupid simple. The ABS unit has 2 inputs and 3 outputs. one input goes to the front two brakes, the other input just goes to the rear where it's split there. Granted, most people will need a proportioning valve, I might just wait till later to do that.

Regardless, here's the straight through -https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edd-276000/overview/
and here's the T fitting - https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw ... 341111435/

Basically, just join those together with a bending tool and go eat cake. That's like $25 in parts shipped!

Not really. $300 and doesn't have the master/firewall mount for the booster eliminator. It only has a single input so it won't work for my dual out master currently.

Well most people haven't butt fucked their car like you have.

Seriously though, I need to start reading up on this because I have a line lock I want to install on the e30 sitting on the shelf.

Hey now. The brakes are mostly stock. Just the booster delete and master down sizing. The rest is factory. The chasebay kit replaces the master too. But it's with a single pot brake master which I don't like. If one pot fails, you lose ALL breaks. Mine will still keep half brakes.

I don't know, my buddy had a factory master fail and he had no brakes. Bad timing too, going into turn 1 at Blackhawk (90* right hand) at around 100mph.

no idea, my Dad ran him to AutoZone and got a replacement master and he ran the rest of the day. I was right behind him, freaked me out but he drove through it engine braking and limped into the pits.

Good idea sir. Thanks. Those jeep guys... so frugal with their wildly expensive builds.
