Ive got irelands big adjustable sways......... beefing up of the sway mount on the trailing arms is highly recommended, ive snapped the tabs off not heeding this advice before.

The a deck 25mm front is 252 now and the 19mm rear is 167 from summit. Just checked it out because oddly, not a single 325 that I own has a rear bar.

This is EXACTLY the forum thread I was looking for. I am brand new to this forum, and also new to the e30 world. That said, I'm in the process of building a franken-30 and had a question on the sway bars.

I'm converting an '85 318 into a 329is (M20B29). I've swapped most of the driveline out of an "is" doner, including the LSD rear end. I've also installed all new suspension and subframe bushings. Most everything has been replaced with poly. Also running Bilstein sports with H&R race springs.

Currently, I have the stock 318 front bar (18mm) with the stock 325is rear bar. I anticipate this will give me a neutral to loose set up, but would love some thoughts. I'm not a fan of going to a huge sway bar just for the sake of running a huge bar.

I'm hoping you converted the car to all disc brakes too? Softer front bar should make the car over steer prone more than understeer. If you're ok with that, I'd leave things as is. I prefer a little over steer to under.

Yeah. Conversion to the full 325is suspension with 4 wheel disks has already been handled. I'll run the 318i/325is sway bar combo and report back. I also prefer bias toward oversteer. As they say, loose is fast.

I run full TMS J-Stock suspension and found I actually like it better with the rear sway bar removed. I was getting issues with lifting the inside rear tire and getting wheel spin with the stock rear sway, which was almost entirely eliminated once I removed it. The J-Stock rates are WAY higher than H&R Race (I ran that setup before the J-Stock) so the sway helped back then. I prefer to handle body roll with stiffer progressive springs than sways. I've been told this isn't right, but it's my opinion. Now that I'm going to be stepping into an unlimited race class I can play with more option in adjustable sways so we'll see if I can find something that works better.

Smooth surfaces, do your work with springs. The less smooth, the harder you go on the bar. That's why off road guys run like 200lb springs but sway bars the size of my arm.
