A little rust isn't bad. If you can poke a pinky through, that's bad.

I haven't read the whole discussion yet (at work), but I just thought I should point out that camber doesn't have as big of an effect on tire wear as people make it out to. Toe makes a much bigger difference. Camber will wear the tire unevenly, but the only way it increases the rate of wear is by subjecting a smaller portion of the tire to the car's load. It's almost like running a way under-sized tire on your car, in terms of wear.

9 degrees? That's a bit extreme, isn't it? I imagine a car would wear the shit out of bike tires, too... -grin- Do you know how much toe you were running?

I acknowledged it would increase wear, but excessive toe will wear tires much faster than an increase in camber.

Either way, that's a shit load of camber. What were you doing with that much?

A bunch of people on the s2k forums run through a set of tires in a year without crazy camber, but I'm assuming that was a vastly accelerated amount of wear on the car you're talking about.

All I've done is lowered my car and my rear tires are completely bald on the inside 1"-2". I've been driving my car lowered for 5 months (6000 miles ish?).

Lowered E30's definitely have a significant amount of camber, and unless you drive like a maniac most people won't come close to utilizing all that rear camber on the street, it can definitely start to wear on tires.

Yoshi, how the hell did you get 9 degrees of camber...????????

I got 9 degrees by doing the E46 control arm swap with the M3 offset cabs and setting my camber plates to made neg. lol. It helped drifting quite a bit but def wasn't street friendly.
