How to keep coilover rear springs from falling out?

Postby Yoshi » Fri Jul 12, 2013 11:29 am

I set my car to stupid max low and the springs just kinda fall out when I jack up the car. I don't mind resetting them before I put the car back down but if my wife takes the car to a shop or something, I don't want the car falling on its ass. Thoughts?

lol, reminds me of my friends old MX-6. He cut the springs to the point where even without being jacked up it was almost as if there were no spring there. To lower the car without losing a spring it took 2 people and 2 jacks. I know that story is of absolutely no use to you, but it was still funny. :-P

heavy duty zip ties. Strap the spring around the bottom coil to the lower perch.

run the tie through the adjuster grooves around the bottom of the adjuster and over the bottom coil.

To fit coilovers as a pose to normal lowering springs and shocks did you have to make any mods to the car? Or could i just buy some and give it to my mechanic to do as a normal suspension swap

you need to mod the front strut housing's, and unless you do significant mods in the rear you can do a true coil overs. The kits come with everything you need to mod the struts, so if you use a competent mechanic that can weld properly he should be able to handle it.
