sunroof problem - crooked and wont close

Postby M20_fever » Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:45 am

Need some help here guys. I've adjusted the sunroof in the past, but this is a new problem to me. I tried to open the sunroof and the motor sounded like it skipped a few teeth, so I tried to close it and it seemed ok. Then I tried to open it again and it just skipped more, so I tried to open it into the vent position and it went up, but now its crooked. The drivers side is higher than the passenger side. If I try to close it the motor skips more, but if I pop the motor access panel off and hold the motor up so it can't skip it will retract to the closed position, though its still crooked with the drivers side properly seated, and the pass side dropped below the roof line.

My big issue is the roof won't open enough to access the front of the headliner panel to release it and slide it back so I can remove the sunroof panel and see what going on. Anyone else experienced anything like this? I'll probably dig into it sometime this week, but would be nice going into it with an idea of what to look for.

I want to keep it, just need to figure out what's wrong. From the reading I've been doing it sounds like it might be an issue with the cables. I just need to figure out how to get the panel off to access everything.

Pop the check light panel and manually attempt to wind the motor with a hex key. I bet one of the cables froze or there is crud in a track, in which case you're not going to have fun extracting it without breaking something.

Good luck with it. I've never had a problem with mine and it's a hand crank one, not electric. Of coarse that's probably why it hasn't broken...haha.

Yeah, I never had a problem with it either. I'm wondering if something got damaged in the sunroof cassette when we installed the cage. We'll see, I'll pull it apart next week.
