Do E30s have alarms?

Why do I have to unlock my doors through my trunk?

Do E30s have alarms?

Postby blasphemy101 » Tue May 01, 2012 1:04 pm

If so, what do they sound like? I was woken this morning by my e30 blaring like someone was just laying on the horn - one solid tone, no pattern/random noises until I pulled the negative lead off the battery.

I wonder what kind of electrical gremlins I need to hunt down now...

Most likely an old aftermarket install. I do think there were factory alarms though, just never actually seen one. Does the horn go back on when you hook the battery up?

Haven't tried - it happened about 5 AM, and I didn't want to bother anyone. I plan to check it out when I get home.

There's definitely no aftermarket alarm. I know it has a clown nose, so I would assume it has some sort of stock system; I have no idea what it sounds like, though.

I have a feeling it's an issue with the horn, as I've tried using it before, and it didn't work.

It looks like it's a problem with the horn. I reconnected the battery, and about 10 minutes later, the horn started going off again. I have a feeling I splashed something with coolant when I pulled out the radiator a few days ago -_-

I hope it wasn't too important. I'll probably end up just pulling the horns...

You kinda need a horn. Pretty simple system, should be able to trace the fault.

Will I need it as a safety device for an auto-x/small track car? I plan to look for the problem, but if I didn't find it immediately, I was just going to pull it.

Here's something interesting: it still happened after I pulled the fuse for the horn! I'm going to check it again to be sure I pulled the correct fuse.

No, you don't need it for track use. If you pulled the right fuse and its still going off then its got to be an issue between the actual horn and the fuse box. Start at the horn and work towards the fuse.
