Stock amplifier wiring?

Why do I have to unlock my doors through my trunk?

Stock amplifier wiring?

Postby Yoshi » Thu Jun 06, 2013 11:08 pm

I wired in a new stereo today. The wiring on the head unit is pretty easy. 8 wires for speakers, power, antenna, ground, switched power. I get nothing but mild blurbs.

Turns out, I think I have a factory amp in the rear. Makes sense because I have tweeters in the doors and such. Anyone know how to bypass the stock amp or wire it so the damn thing works?

that's what I was trying to go by... but where is that fucker? I was staring around the trunk and I think I found it but IIRC there's also a similar looking thing that does the rear check panel relay stuff.

Dude, not having to deal with the desperate fader is a good thing!!! And on the later model cars the fader was integrated into the deck. I honestly completely rewired my audio system to get it to work how I wanted, although one of the previous owners had it hacked up for some shitty Sony. Premium sound does sound great once you get it working though.

Oh and the amp is in the trunk by the antenna, tucked up in there. Same bracket holds it in as the check relay, should be obvious which is which, I think my amp said Blaupunkt Kk it.

The amp? Yup, just bypass it if you have you're own head unit.

Wow that was an adventure... The wires were not the way they were in the link above. Turns out, I had to strip it down about a foot to find what the original wires were. They are twisted pairs so it's easy to see what color went to what. The power wires were correct. I just pulled the wiring out to the back seat, twisted them all together and gave it a go.

What took me 2 hours was that my aux in was a mono cable so only the LEFT side ever worked... wtf? On a good note, the power antenna works and the $30 head unit I bought actually sounds nice coming out of 20 year old speakers lol. This head unit is better than the one in my daily >_<. With the power remote locks and the head unit, this is the nicest E30 I've ever owned. That's not saying much though.
