Where can I tap for a key on relay?

Why do I have to unlock my doors through my trunk?

Where can I tap for a key on relay?

Postby Yoshi » Mon Apr 28, 2014 12:10 am

Apparently I literally ripped out ALL the stereo wiring in my car. Well now I want a stereo back damnit. But none of the wiring is there. So I need to wire in a relay that will power the stereo when the car is on the "on" position. Suggestions?

Why can;t you use the same relay the stock stereo used? You pulled the wiring out, but did you pull the whole fuse block out? If so, why not just use a standard relay and use the aux position on the ignition switch as the trigger wire, and a direct line to the battery + for power?

Just be careful because that type of wiring is what causes the radio to stay on and kill your battery... If only I didn't hate electrical...

I can't seem to find the stereo wiring in my diagrams and I don't remember how far I pulled the wiring. I don't even recall where the relay is that the factory head unit used. I don't really want to tap directly from the ignition but I'll guess I'll do that if need be.

I can scan the diagrams out of my bentley if you want. Just let me know before Thursday - that's the last day I'll be at school this semester.

I thought we all did. I keep my hard copy on my back seat, and have a digital copy on no less than 2 computers.

I usually know everything so I hardly use it. Sounds pompous but it's honest lol.

I've owned 85/87/88/89/90. I don't think I've owned an 86 or 91 but I might have. Oh yea, my last auto was a 91. So I'm missing 84/86. Though 86 is also debatable.

I've had autos/manuals/is/i/e/es models. No AWD models though. I've also yanked a lot of motors but only put back in M20s or M50 variants. I refuse to put a 4 banger in an E30 :)
