Why do I have to unlock my doors through my trunk?

Electric locks cycle to "locked" after being unlocked

Postby EBSF » Sat Aug 30, 2014 2:49 am

This just cropped up. The doors automatically lock themselves whenever they are unlocked in any manner (using door key, lifting the lock knob, or using the trunk lock).

Furthermore, with the driver door open, the locks cycle unlocked-locked 2-6 times. I note that designed behavior is that if the driver door is open, locking the trunk locks the doors before they cycle open (but just once).

Any thoughts on where the fault may lie, before I dig further in? The only work on the car was removing and re-installing the trunk lining in connection with a suspension overhaul a few months ago. I'm thinking either the trunk lock or the lock control unit. Also, does anyone have a part no. for the lock control unit, because I don't see it on the ETK.

The reason it unlocks immediately is that something isn't working right with the lock itself. If it can't fully lock, it'll unlock. Just gotta figure out which one isn't locking...

Actually, the problem is that it locks immediately, not that it unlocks immediately. It only unlocks when the driver's door is open, which is what it's supposed to do. Problem is, it then cycles itself to, "locked" and reiterates.

Lock contrul unit part #: 61 31 1 380 302 (same on my '87 and my '90; no clue for earlier models).

Your problem is likely related to a lock solenoid or one of the common wiring faults described above.
