Passenger's side power window shat itself

Swapping the buttons doesn't work and I manually powered the window at the motor to get the window back up. So it's somewhere between the button and the motor. Time to pour through electrical diagrams but wondering if anyone knows first hand.

Ah well screw you guys I'll answer myself. All windows are powered via fuse #17. The wire at the switch is colored green/gray. The switch itself takes this input (pin 3) and simultaneously grounds either pin 4 or 6 and powers pin 1 or 8.

The window motor itself only has 2 wires. So polarized one way, the window goes up, the other way it goes down.

In my case, either the green/gray wire is no longer receiving power and is broken somewhere, or there's a break in the violet gray and/or black gray wires. Should be simple enough to test continuity and find the broken wire. Actually performing the fix sounds potentially annoying however. I do recall mucking with that stuff to eliminate the lock outs witch though. It's probably there.

I wish I could help, it's been so long since I did the e36 switch upgrades I forgot all the wiring stuff. I have some other diagrams I can probably dig up off my old computer, but it sounds like you're on the right track. If it was a broken wire you should be able to get intermittent functionality by wiggling/pushing/pulling each wire with the switch depressed.

What IS the E36 switch mod? I thought it was just getting the switches and plugging them in lol.

I had to manually power the window at the track to get it up and down. Although I was kicking myself for having rolled it up on my ride home in 95F weather.

yeah it's just swapping the switches, but I had to trace all the wires because they don't match up between the bases. I also installed one as the sunroof switch which was totally different. Spent quite a while staring at diagrams trying to figure it all out, then immediately forgot it all when it worked, lol.

It wasn't too bad. The switches just swap grounds for the motor and power. Since the motor itself only has 2 wires, the switches simply swap the polarity via internal magic. 5 wires. 1 power feed. 1 power/ground pair for up, then another power/ground pair for down.

So now you can roll your window?

For right now, I just get my jump box and manually power it up and down when needed

Ain't got time! I'm working on another E30 for side cash. I'm definitely fast as hell but it's still taking up all of my spare time.
