Ressurecting E30Tech - The story thread

I feel like starting this for archiving and maybe legal purposes. Tech has gone down several times for several months since about 2012. So when it went back up this past week (with no mention from chris or anything) I decided to screen scrape the whole site in case it went down for good. Since user activations are still dead (admin approval), it made sense to try to attach a new forum where you could refer to the old threads.

Hence the GoFundMe and making moves to "resurrect" the forum. Then Chris showed up like an hour ago, deleted my thread on tech and permabanned me with no comment/note in the ban. I can understand him not wanting me to do what I'm doing (assuming he's planning to keep the forum going). If he's going to keep the admin activation, the forum will just continue the downward spiral.

Course now I'm left at this odd crossroads where I have donated money from people but a website that (might) no longer need to be transitioned away from. I've already spent some of the donation money on the scraper software. I still want to put up the archive site at the VERY least. I wonder legality though.

Good question that needs to be asked. I have no idea what is considered IP from a data standpoint. The schema may be proprietary if it's customized from a template.

From my lawyer friend, the posts are public. So there's no issue with taking any of that. The issue is more the likeness and images.

Chris made his 3 posts, probably won't hear from him for another year.

So it's been a few weeks. Can anyone that hasn't been banned confirm that he hasn't posted or approved any new users?

All of the tools that I purchased or did a trial for just outright will not do what I want it to do. So I'm making my own software to do it. At the time of writing this post, I'm at 12,000 pages of content downloaded. I'm gonna scrape everything off the site I can get my hands on and then clean things up so they work cohesively.

If I can get proof that Chris has gone MIA again, I'll work on the code that forwards people here. It's gonna take a boat load of work but I'm already getting there fairly quickly.
