If they had no enthusiasts left working for them, it would be impossible to just order the sport package and manual transmission together and get a port-installed LSD, which is currently possible with the 2, 3, 4, and 5 series. The problem is that they want better sales numbers, and for some reason, decided to compete against Audi. With only so much resources but an expanding model portfolio, each vehicle they've developed since adopting that strategy is losing the driving prowess that made BMW's products worth buying in the first place.

The irony is that other manufacturers are chasing older BMWs for their driving dynamics, which is why we have fun luxury cars like the Lexus IS and the Cadillac ATS.

It's a clutch type, not sure of lockup capabilities, but it is installed by the dealer as a complete pumpkin. Cost is something around $950.
