Bought a couple turbos

Postby M20_fever » Tue Dec 13, 2016 1:02 am

They're buried somewhere in this thing. I'll get some better pics once we get through this storm and I can get it washed.

Good Car & Driver review that seems to hold true to my own experience so far.

I wonder if they fixed the glass transmission issue. Or maybe that was just explorer models.

You rich bruh? That's got to be like a $600+ a month payment. You haz kids! I'm just jelly :(

You mean the transmission they pulled out of the Pinto and tossed under the Exploder?

haha, same 6 speed auto they've been putting in the f150s since 2011. No major issues I know of, but I got the 100k power train warranty so I can ignore concerns like that for a few years. Payment is less than $600, no way I could afford that. Technically it's two years old, so depreciation worked in my favor on this one. I did get a decent promotion a few months back that made it a little easier to swallow, but our old '06 Expedition was a ticking time bomb, and this was the first year they put the Ecoboost in the expedition. I wasn't getting another 5.4, was POS that engine is...It has more room being an EL, and it's really safe for the Wife and kids. I put off getting a new DD for myself to get us into this, so I'll keep running my 140k mile w202 c230 for a couple more years to make up for it. If the 5.4 hadn't taken a dump I was going to get an e39 m sport to replace the Merc...by the time I can afford a new car for myself they'll probably be out of my price range. Oh well...

16k sir. 10 of it was funded by selling my truck/trailer/s52 turbo bits/handies on the street corner. The other 6 was some money I had saved from selling parts and 4k on the CC. All in all, it didn't cost THAT much. *sobs* yea it did.

damn son, that has to rank as one of the most expensive LS swaps of all time...You can buy a complete LS car for half that and damn near break even after parting the donor...

They did a lot more than just the swap. But yea, truth be told, it cost much more than I was expecting. Looking back on it, I'd do things very differently. But that could be said about my S52 turbo and M50 turbo, and M20 turbo.

live and learn man. I really didn't want a car payment, but it's gotten to the point where I was spending every free moment I had working on keeping our daily drivers running and safe. I got into working on cars because I enjoyed it, that has not been the case the last few years, I've basically just been my own part time mechanic working on boring shit...I'm hoping that getting the Wife this new car with a warranty I can actually get back to spending some time in the garage working on stuff I've been staring at for months and convince myself I still do enjoy it...

I totally know the feeling man. I've gone through similar stuff a few times in my life. Getting into something because you enjoy it, then get bored with it because you HAVE to do it. Don't ever get a job doing what you LOVE doing, cuz you'll end up hating it.

yeah, I'm really going to try and get some work on the Chevelle done this weekend. I've said that a lot, but I need to get to it if I ever want to drive the car again...

My father-in-law had one of those fords. Good truck, even though its a turbo 6 cylinder. Set cruise at 72 and it gets 27 mpg. Of course, you have to drive at 72 while everyone passes you but anything else and gas mileage drops off horribly.

Its way better than my wife's exobooat ford escape though. We get 23ish in hers on the highway and its a 1.5l four cylinder
