I musta missed the post about a Honda forum. I've been so busy that I might have just half read something. Is that website about your welding skills? :-D

I really didn't want a car payment, but it's gotten to the point where I was spending every free moment I had working on keeping our daily drivers running and safe. I got into working on cars because I enjoyed it, that has not been the case the last few years, I've basically just been my own part time mechanic working on boring shit...I'm hoping that getting the Wife this new car with a warranty I can actually get back to spending some time in the garage working on stuff I've been staring at for months and convince myself I still do enjoy it...

I had the same reasoning for replacing my rotating fleet of cheap-to-acquire high mileage daily drivers for my Fiesta ST. For me, it worked as intended; hopefully the same will hold true for you.

The six speed auto your truck is mated to has been surprisingly reliable since it was introduced. The first gen 3.5 Ecoboost has its flaws (timing chain elongation, chain tensioner wear, cam phasers), but most of those are negated by completing oil changes at Ford's severe duty service interval. I may end up with something powered by a second gen 3.5 within a couple of years, since I am unwilling to purchase another direct injection gasoline engine that doesn't have port injectors, too.

Yeah, I saw some of the early issues, but these engines have been in production since 2011 so I'm hoping most of those issues were worked out. So far it's been a great truck. The biggest let down is how poor the SYNC works as a infotainment system. Considering its 'powered by Microsoft' I expected more. It's laggy, hard to use, disables dumb shit while driving (like switching to bluetooth music on your phone) and not intuitive to use while driving, and the voice command sucks.

got her washed so obligatory pic.

"Powered by Microsoft"... Isn't that an oxymoron? I wonder if you could make it run Linux instead. Seems the newer vehicles run QNX now, which IMO is definitely a step in the right direction. If it were my vehicle I'd see if there were any possible way to put Linux on it, but that's just me. Good luck with it. I'm sure it'll get easier to use once you get used to it.

It's piss poor, once the warranty is up (no hurry) I'll look into loading a better OS to it. I'm sure it's been done.

Really surprised at some of the stuff left out of the digital cluster selections. This is a twin turbo 3.5 and there is no option for a boost or EGT gauge. My truck has the heavy duty tow package, and if you are hauling at the limit of rated capacity those are two very important things to monitor.

Yea but wasn't your truck a diesel? I find EGT more common on diesels and rarely ever on gas.

My truck is a diesel, the Expedition is gas. EGT carries the same importance, if not more in gas applications. Boost is on;y half the equation, if you don't know your EGTs you are missing a lot of info needed to accurately tune both the engine metrics (conventional use of 'tune' i.e. spark advance, boost control, injector PWM), as well as tuning the parts (exhaust size, intercooler size, etc.). I wouldn't want to tune a boosted gasser without EGT input.

I know. But I was pointing out you see them more often on diesels.
