Feeler: Billet aluminum shifter

Postby M20_fever » Wed Nov 20, 2013 2:53 am

So, I've been wanting a new taller shifter with some decent weight, and none of the ones I've seen really fit the bill for me. So I designed my own, and am looking to have a run produced to bring the cost down a bit. The shifter will be CNC machined from billet aluminum, wwith a raw machined finish (might be able to polish for a fee). Shifter will $80 shipped to the ConUS if I can get 10 people on board.

specs:

weight: 1.3 lbs.

height: 6.1 in.

material: billet aluminum

Install: Four 1/4-20 set screws (included)

Here is a rendering of the design:

If you are seriously interested post up so I can see where it stands. This won't be a regular production item, I'm just doing one run to get the cost down, it just happens that offering these up to the community makes it cheaper for everyone.

Tony, Perhaps we could offer a shorter version.

How far do the shaft do you think it will sit... *giggles*

On your car its probably not going to be bad since the shifter arm is so short.

yeah I could shorten the design easily. The stock late model shift knob is ~3.5" tall, so how tall would people like to see?

I honestly would love a tall shifter for the white car just because, but I can't justify that price for my beater. And billet aluminum would be cold as heeeeeell in winter.

yeah, Ive been wanting a taller shifter for a while now. I like the feel of the uber short shifter I have now, but its not great for racing, and I think a longer weighted knob will help with my second gear issue. My current shifter is also aluminum nd yes, it gets cold when its winterish (as cold as it gets before they salt). That's why I have some sweet leather driving gloves.

J land has some nice dildo sized shift knobs. I really don't like the detached feeling it gives me. I like a simple weighted shiftknob.

I also like it when it's ribbed. teehee

I really like the overall shape, but I'm sort of in the same boat as N^2. I want one, but I'm not sure I can justify $80 on such a minor thing at this point...

Are you for sure going to produce this, or are you open to alternatives? I don't want to poo on the thread since it looks like you're trying to generate interest.

We will make it... if there's interest. I am producing them for everyone, but Tony came up with the design.

Gotcha - The INTEREST is there, but I'm not sure the money is.

Since it hasn't been produced yet, I'll ask... Why not just make an extender? Similar production cost + lower material cost and people can use whatever knob they want.
