There's always a catch can but that's also a bandaid. The problem is that the oiling system is extra musky. It's usually a sign of bad seals/valves/piston rings. I would start with valve seals.

Well we don't even know why his TPS is bad yet. May not even be an oil issue. How the Hell did I threadjack myself? lol

My guess would be the oil leaks around the throttle body shaft where there should be a seal that has either disintegrated over time or was never there in the original design. I've noticed this issue on my car and always assumed that was the cause and it was exacerbated by boost in the intake manifold.

I wonder how oil accumulates there, though... Vapor from the oil return tube running through the manifold? Maybe older motors with warn valve stem seals might have enough blow-by in the cylinder head to make this a problem?

[EDIT] lmao I didn't realize there was a second page. Glad to see I'm not the only one who came to these conclusions...

This isn't just a problem on 100k plus engines, it's a design flaw in the system. My m20 does the same thing (oil in the intake/throttle body) and it has maybe 6k miles on it. I was planning to redesigning the bitch tube, valve cover vent tube (spider under the intake mani) when I built the custom intake mani for the supercharger. It may have ben the most cost effective way to get the cars to pass emissions back then, but not a concern now so fix it.

Well just let me know next time you're gonna be in the area. I don't have the money right now to make 2 87 coupes into 1 really nice one (especially if I manage to get that 87 vert), so I will have the car a bit longer than originally planned. When I first picked it up I was planning to have it stripped down to an empty shell and over to the body shop for him to cut out all the sheet metal that my DD needs so I could bring the rest of the shell to scrap and have him start welding in the good metal to my DD in under 2 weeks. That did not happen.

Well when I got the car I had the money, just no time to strip the parts car and couldn't really give up my DD while getting the body work done. Things came up that took most of my "extra" cash, so now it must wait. If I do get the vert at least I'll be able to take the DD off the road until winter. Don't wanna drive the vert in the winter cuz it's been garage kept most of its life. Had no cancer that I could see, and I'd like to keep it that way if I get it.
