1984 e30 priorities help

Postby BMW_e30 » Wed Jul 29, 2015 2:09 am

So I have a lot of problems with my car and I need help what I should take on first. My fender and door are pretty banged up, passenger window motor is broke, power steering rack and pump is leaking, leaks oil, on cut springs, bad paint, and I have one different wheel. Please put these in order from most important to least

oil leak
steering leaks
window motor
springs
paint/body work

IMO order of importance is based on vehicle reliability, then comfort, then looks

Is the car new to you? If so the first thing you should do, like now, is timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and thermostat. Failure to do this can, and will, result in a broken timing belt which in the best case will trash your head, and worst case trash the whole engine. If you've already done that thenI would address the leaks, suspension, then the window, then the wheels, and finally the cosmetics.

Well what is most important to YOU? As the owner of the car I'd suggest you take on things in the order you find them most important, assuming none of those problems causes any driveability issues. If it does, obviously fix that first, then work your way through the rest of the list. Just be sure you watch the fluid levels where those leaks are.

If you're not absolutely 100% certain when the timing belt was last done then that should probably be your first step. Also, if the car has been sitting for a while, even if it only has 100 miles on a timing belt, replace it anyway. While you're in there do the tensioner (ask me how I know to do the tensioner), water pump, etc.

How 'bout a build thread with pictures? I'm sure once the pictures start flowing in the suggestions will follow.
