I drift the turbo beast tomorrow.

Postby Yoshi » Wed Oct 14, 2009 11:19 pm

Unfortunately its raining and probably going to rain tomorrow... But on the bright side, the car is reasonably stout lately and this will be a good test of the new cooling system. I rented a trailer from uhaul so this is also a medium test for the truck to see if it can tow this far before towing it to WV.

wish me luck guys! I'm drifting a banked oval >_<

That does seem to be the consistent advice I'm getting. I have gone face first into this same wall a few years back. well I barley missed it but still scared the balls out of me.

Too bad its going to be raining :(

Yeah bro, if you lift its game over. I learned the hard way on an on-ramp back when I was young and stupid. You can modulate a little if you have power to correct again, but its pretty much full commit.

Just a few pix. I'll post videos as they come.

heres the story I posted from my other forum of what went down.
The ODS private day wasn't set up as anything special. Just a day I reserved and offered any SW members an opportunity to share the day with. But this day wound up being just me (pussies). It rained like crap but the uhaul trailer and hank the F250 held up well.

We get to the track only to see the faces of the track ppl be slightly confused. The front desk lady was like "I didn't think you were coming". HA. Then the owner Steve called for me... He said they couldn't insure this track day, I was nuts for trying this, but they would let me go out uninsured "If you choose to. Only if you choose to" according to him. lol.

So, Claytoris and sachith set up in the middle and I did a few hot laps to feel out the track. I think I started drifting the bank my second lap in. Speeds started at 35mph for entries and wound up being around 50+ when I started to get the hang of it. I started to get an odd vibration from the rear whenever I clutch kicked. I think its the tires hitting the fender but I don't know. Also the diff didn't seem to be locking up as much. One side kicked up tons more water than the other.

Then one caliper bolt backed out. Unfotunately, i didn't have any spares that worked well enough so that ended the day. I got over 2 solid hours straight on the bank. Temps held max 210F so that's good. Dex did well, I'm elated I can do the bank now. Although we'll have to see if I can do it in the dry. I wonder if it will be easier or harder.

I have in car video that I will post when i get some time. Probably while I'm at work tomorrow.

W00t. After 4 years of watching others do the bank and wanting to do it so bad, I finally did. Muahaha!

The new suspension setup is definitely helping quite a bit. Unfortunately, I'm fucking with it again before the next event lol. Top adjustable konis and 10k springs up front. Although the 8k/14k felt pretty good. Might just be the rain.
