Any guitar playing experience?

Postby ponycarman » Sun Dec 04, 2011 9:36 pm

Do any of yall have any guitar playing experience? Just curious. I tooks lessons years ago. Like 8 years I think. Had an awefull teacher that kinda made me give up on it. I had the metality that I wasnt really cut out to play an instument. I also had tried and failed at piano haha. My parents had bought me a really good guitar that I still have. Very lightly played. Rescently I got with some friends who both play. This has got me wanting to have another go at it. Ive been watching some video lessons online and youtube and stuff. Been practicing and playing around the last few days. Try to play at least 30min a day if not more. Just curious if anyone here plays. If anyone does, do you have any tips and tricks or anything like that. Haha my finger tips have been killing me.

Been playing since I was 16 (long time ago, lol). Played in a few bands in college, mostly rhythm but some lead too. I mostly play acoustic these days, not a lot of time to dedicate to playing with a group.

Stick with it, once you get to the point it comes without to much thinking and you can just let ho its all worth the practice. Build them callouses son!

Best advice I can give you is practice your scales and bar cords, the rest will come in time.

Thanks yoshi! I'm doing my best haha. My fingers are pretty tender from it all right now. I'm still practicing. I just don't want to get blisters on my fingers haha. I've heard callus is good, but blisters are bad.

you need to build the calluses. if you stop playing, your fingers will go soft. literally

Yeah thats what I'm doing. Yesterday when I was playing around with it, I was stopping ever few minutes and putting my fingers on an ice pack to kinda dull the pain. Surprisingly it worked quite well.

It was worth it. When I was playing everyday i could push a pin all the way through my fingertips and not feel a thing. :)

Haha nice. After last nights practice session I had a few small blisters on my fingertips. Luckily though they were gone by this morning. It would be a pain at work if my fingers were hurting too bad.

I'm looking to get my first ever electric guitar soon. Been doing some searching and trying to descide style, brand, ect. I'm ok no way an awesome player. Still learning alot and practicing. I played around with a friends stat and liked it alot. So I thought it would be fun to get one of my own and play around with it. I think I have narrowed down the one I'm wanting to get and wanted to see what yall think? Mainly those with guitar experience but in open to all opinions.

Les Paul us a great guitar, long as its not made in Mexico. Same goes for the fender strat as well. I had a fender strat plus I loved. The two have very different and unique sounds to them. Best advice I can give you os go to a shop and play both, buy what you like more.

IMO until you get good, stick with a fender strat. cheap and gets the damn job done. You can get a used one damn cheap.

I looked at a few of these last night and they felt and sounded great. I like the fender strat but I don't think I can get one of this quality for my price range. And I figure it was a very flexible platform I could practice any type of music. Guess we will see haha. I'm hoping to go get one sometime this month.
