Your first car

Postby Nsquared97 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 10:44 pm

What was it? And was it more than just your first car to you? This article is a great read, and I think for many of us our first car was more than just a car.
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/0 ... first-car/

I'll start. My first was a 1997 Saturn SC2. 1.9L DOHC but unfortunately with a slushbox. Car was pretty good to me, much more capable than I had ever thought when I originally bought it. Ended up killing it with just over 170k on it, blew the motor while (ironically) racing against (and ultimately beating) the guy I bought my E30(s) from racing his own E30.

When I first got it:

The last summer I had it:

I do miss it a little bit here and there, but can't say that I want another one terribly bad. Although a 5spd wouldn't be bad for a winter beater in an attempt to keep my E30 as rust free as possible.

I can honestly say my first car was an e30! A delphin metallic 1989 325i. Loved that car. Bought it working at little Caesars pizza!

My first car was a 78' VW rabbit. Had it for about 2 weeks, my older sister borrowed it and totaled it. I got it for free so it wasn't too big of a hit on my pride.

2nd car was an 88' VW fox 2 door sport wagon LOL. :D also got it for free because the previous owner drove it into an 8ft deep puddle. Took about 3 weeks to fully dry out after I pulled the interior and changed all the fluids, ran like a champ!

Sorry no pics, wayy too long ago.

Had to dig out the photo album and scan these bad boys, now I feel old, lol.

First car, 1969 Caprice with the 350HP 350CI small block. Car was stupid fast for how big it was, smoked 80's Camaros and Mustangs all day.
Image

Second car, 1972 Chevelle with a 406CI bowtie block.
Image

after we painted it red...regretted that. Liked it better orange.

thats all I have the motivation to scan for now, lol.

My first was a '84 pontiac firebird. It was a project when I was 14. Never drove it really. I think it left the driveway once. Then we found out it had a broken frame. Traded it for a '80 camaro. I drove it some but it also needed work. My dad still has it. Which brings me to my third car. My '79 pontiac trans am. Was my dads. We traded strait up. I still have the ta. I drove it for about a year. Then tore into it for a rebuild. That car taught me a pretty important lesson about projects. If possible keep it drivable lol. You will have way more fun in the end. Especially if your on a budget.

My first was a 1996 GMC Jimmy. Loved that truck, but I got it just before gas prices went through the roof. I ended up having to sell it because I literally spent my entire weeks check in the gas tank of that thing. A guy who lives down the road from me bought it and still has it. He treats it well. I learned a TON about cars on that thing.
After that I had a '95 Ford Ranger 5spd 4cyl 4wd. That was an awesome truck too. I only had it about a year though because it literally topped out at 65mph (I had big tires on it). I had the need for speed and then bought my e30. I remember falling in love on the test drive when I got on it in 2nd gear -fake smile-

My first car was an '86 Chrysler LeBaron GTS. I can honestly say it was just my first car. It had been sitting for 7 years before I got it, and needed everything. I had fun with it when it ran, but as a car it was nothing special to me. The first car I bought after I had a job and made enough money to buy something I wanted was a '94 Miata. Now THAT was a great car... every time I think of the car I regret selling it. Actually, I think it's the only car I really regret selling. My other favorite car ('89 325is) got totaled.

If I could have both of those cars in my garage right now I would be a very happy person.

My first car was a 1980 320i 5 speed with the floor completely rusted out to the point where my foot and the gas pedal went through the floor on the highway. Shoved a floor mat under it when I got my hands on one, and kept it movin.

My SECOND car was an 86 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo Convertible. Not sure what the GTS model was, I didn't care, the car cost me $200. Had no back window, top had several holes in it so the floor in the back was always wet, so we used to just drive around with the top down in the rain. People looked at us like we were insane. :-D

I owned an '88 (or was it '87? ugh, I'm forgetting) Nissan 200SX for all of 16 hours before it was stolen. The first real car of my own was my '87 Toyota Corolla SR5 (AE86, hooray), and I still haven't convinced myself to sell it. Too many good memories tied up in a car I never really was able to push the limits of. Now it's a lot rustier and needs a ton of work to finish restoring to GT-S spec, but even though it's monetarily insane to keep, I still have an affinity for my sad panda.
