Who wants to see my sliced open knuckle?

Postby Yoshi » Sat Aug 31, 2013 5:23 pm

I was getting off the 10mm bolt on the shield for the trans. The bolt broke loose after a lot of effort then BAM. I looked down and noticed I could see what I later found out was my tendon. I forgot to take pix of the doc pulling open the flaps and having me move my finger around. No tendon damage. Just clear through the skin. 3 stitches which is a new record I'd like to not beat. Kinda makes me angry as this effects typing (like in my day job). 7 days in a splint and 10 days till stitches come out. No car stuff till then. No working out either. BAH!

So this one is kinda cool. To clean it out, the lady shot water INTO my hand. So all that is literally water UNDER my skin.

This thread has enough win it for one lifetime or until we lose our leaders to their wives or lack of typing ability from further injury...

Ick. That almost looks exactly like a cut I had. Same location and same stuff with the tendon. I did it with a saw zaw though and had 5 stitches. Two inside and three outside. The doc said I knicked the bone and cut into the tendon capsule some. My hand was usless for a while. Had to restretch the skin over the knuckle too after the chunk of skin was lost. Not fun at all. Hope you recover and heal quickly buddy.

Fuuu. you still got full use of the hand/fingers?

Yea I'm out of the splint right now. More cuz I can't stand it. Still can't make a full fist with it but that's probably because the stitches won't let the skin move. Stitches come out tuesday. Fuck going back to the doc. I'll do it myself. lol.

Yep I got full motion back. It took me a while to get it all back though. I guess everything had to work itself back to normal. Here is the leftover of it. It healed up pretty good. The scar is a bit more noticeable in person though. I just think of it as a battle scar or a conversation starter :D

Also didn't it feel so weird when they cleaned it? When the lady cleaned mine she pinched on the edge of the cut and pulled it all open so she could squirt all that cleaning stuff in. Very strange feeling haha.

They used a syringe to clean mine. She like jetted the water under the skin. No pulling apart for that one, it was already pretty open though. The weird part was when she pulled the skin flaps apart and had my move my finger to verify tendon movement. She pulled UP and apart. Like a finger tent. I wouldn't call it a strange feeling. More like freaky.

Heh, we are injury buddies. Kinda like eskimo brothers without the sex.

They used a syringe on mine too but I guess it wasn't as claen and the doc would have liked lol. She must of stuck that thing a few inches into the wound. It was numb so not painful but definitely not something I want to feel again. I guess I can live with being injury buddies lol.

I can't even remember when mine happened. Must be like 7-8yrs now. I think it did mess with a nerve or something though. I have a small numb spot and the rest of the knuckle is very tender. Be carefull after it heals. Accidently hitting it hurts pretty badly

I do recall them sticking gauze into my hand last time to clean it out. The anesthetic didn't work so I felt every stitch. I need to stop getting stitches.

Ick. I'm glad the anesthetic work for me. I'm sure that wasn't fun. I don't get many stitches. Think I've only had them a few times. This was the last time I can remember. Now thats not to say there were times I should have gotten them and didn't. First thing we do if we are cut on the job is to put some electrical tape on it. The adhesive works pretty well on clotting stuff up and holding it together.

Yep. Same. I sliced a vein and bled EVERYWHERE. I went to the doc 2 days later for something else and she was like "yea, you shoulda gotten stitches". I asked if I should get them there and she told me it was too late.

Rule of thumb, if it won't stop bleeding, get stitches. If you can get it to stop bleeding and it isn't an open wound, you don't need no damn stitches.
