e30 tune up

Postby cream » Tue Oct 15, 2013 7:11 pm

I had taken my 24 year old car to a drift event with a welded diff and ended up breaking my motor mounts so by newtons law i believe it broke my driveshaft ujoints as well. i ended up replacing my driveshaft from driveshaftspecalist with non replaceable ujoints, new guibo, e21 tranny mounts, r3v member's condorspeed motor mounts and put in the stock s3.73 diff. also decieded to rebuild my leaky 95 e36 steering rack from pskits. car is still up in the air so not sure how it's gonna feel we shall see!

mods: IE hollow adjustable 22mmR/25mmF sways, bilstein sports/h&r sports, aftermarket HD rear strut mounts, stock m20b25. pretty much stock but i will probally be planning to put in a lsx swap in there someday..

I'm almost done with the LS swap kit for E30s. You got any angle mods? Can't tell but it looks like a lot of angle in that last pic.

lol, i have no steering rack/tie rods in there. i did do the e36 rack for more steering angle/faster steering but i also own a 240sx s13, do they have spacers for wheel angle on e30's like s13's? also yoshi how do you feel about the stock drivetrain/m20b25 e30 in drifting? i am still learning and i do like the feel of the 240 for drifting and it slides like butter, however i love the e30 as well will my new mounts/drivetrain etc be safe for drifting? i do also enjoy autox, togue, anything with handling. what do most people do with the rear e30 suspension for drifting? shock/spring or custom coilover setup?

I don't think the E36 rack actually gives you more angle. I never bothered to measure though. They do have some tie rod spacers floating around. you'll have to hunt to find anyone that actively sells them. I'm trying to get my local race shop to put them on their online catalog. Maybe I'll hit them up if you want some.

The stock drivetrain is great. The power out of the stock M20 leaves you with a few short comings when it comes to stretching corners but the car will handle the abuse.

Rear suspension is faux coilovers. Ground Control makes a kit that slaps on. It's not coil over strut but it has height adjusters and generic spring perches. kinda pricey but man it's a great setup.
