That would be my guess, the most used portion of the tach kept vertical.

I know I'm a nerd, but does the game really look this good? How do the driving dynamics compare to other games - my only experience is the Forza series...

I drooled so hard over this. Supposedly the physics aren't great though.

That's somewhat disappointing. Then again, I've heard lots of people say the physics in Forza aren't great, but they're good enough for me. You can only get the 'driving feel' so right through a controller. I imagine it makes a much bigger difference once you step up to a racing wheel, though.

I've only done the GT series with a wheel. It's decent but def lacks something.

Arktisblau 5-speed 86 325e (current DD)
Schwarz 5-speed 87 325e (parts car/LS1 swap?)

Yes, it really does look that good... if you have the hardware to handle it. My hardware is moderately good. I have dual GTX 560 TI's... and recently discovered pCARs only utilizes one of them. So, with a low-mid ranged card, I can have great fun doing time trials at 720p with nearly everything maxed out running 30-40 FPS.

As for the driving dynamics, I was a huge fan of Forza for a while, still admire the game for what it is. In my opinion Forza is the best simulator to play with a gamepad. But the physics in this game are much better. I also like the physics much better than the GT series. This game was designed for use with a good driving wheel. It's playable with a gamepad, but requires a lot of patience and skill. I've always played with all driver aids turned off, and now that I finally have a G27, it's an utterly enjoyable experience.

As for those who say the physics aren't that great... they fall into one of a few categories.
1. They heard it from somewhere else
2. They're jealous that they didn't participate in the early access program while it was still available. (This group is a large percentage of Assetto Corsa's customers. Also the biggest group that tells everyone else that pCARs physics suck.)
3. They forgot that the game is in pre-alpha stage. The physics are not complete on all the cars. I have 2 video's that I'll link at the bottom of the post that demonstrate how awful the physics have been on some of the cars before they were developed thoroughly enough. So in this case, they're right, the physics suck(ed), but only because the car was incomplete.
4. They're driving with a gamepad, which as I previously mentioned is extremely hard, at least without driver assistance.
5. They have only played the game with all driver assists on, which makes it seem far too easy.
6. They have never driven a real car, so their concept of what a real car should handle like is based on other video games.

Project CARS is a very unique project. I think it's the first AAA game where the gaming public was allowed to be the publisher. As such, the game is driven by the desires of those who funded it, as well as the developers vision for the game. It was the supporters who chose to extend the release date (I didn't vote on that, don't hurt me!) and it was the supporters who chose to support next-gen consoles, instead of the previous gen (I did vote for that.) Also, there never really was much of an NDA against posting video's of the game, so the public has had the opportunity to see the game in a state of development that most developers would never allow. We can post video's of the good, bad and ugly. There is an NDA on releasing certain business decision information, but that hasn't always been followed... part of the risk of letting essentially anyone be a part of the development team, even if in a small way.

Here's my very first video of the E30 in pCARS. Compare it to my most recent videos with it, and you'll see what I mean about some cars being seriously under-developed. Virtually nothing is ready for release yet, but some cars are certainly more ready than others.

Here's another video I recently made of the '72 Ford Escort. It handles like crap, and has some of the most unrealistic crashes I've ever seen in the game. So I thought it would be fun to make a compilation of how crazy it is, before it gets fixed.

Lacks proper sound, for one, lol.

I gave up on the GT series when in GT5, my beefed up '70 Dodge Challenger sounded like a Honda Civic.

Among other reasons....

Physics have to be applied to each car? That doesn't seem right. I'll give it a shot one day. I'm not holding my breath.

Well, I don't know exactly how they program their physics, or their cars. All I really know is that most cars are spot on right now, but some that I have driven have been really wonky through the development of the game.

Here's a video I made with the same car on the same track.

I'm running in Win 8.1 w/ an AMD FX-8150 3.6GHZ processor, 32GB DDR3 2133 RAM, and an MSI GTX 560 Ti graphics card w/ 1GB DDR5 RAM. So, other than the RAM (which doesn't help the game much at all) my computer is kinda average for a gaming machine. I used to run SLI cards but I think my secondary card burnt out, I haven't been able to get it to work the last couple days.

So you can see how the game runs on an affordable machine. I think it's going to get a performance boost before release... there's still a lot of developer tools running in the background of the game.

Welp. After having put 8 hours into Assetto Corsa, I can now confidently say that Project C.A.R.S. physics have it SOUNDLY beat. Almost everything in AC understeers like a bitch... especially the Ferrari's, which are the main reason I even got it.

Somebody on the team must like E30's though, as the E30 M3 Group A is about the only car I've found in the game that handles well. It soundly beats the F458, F40, P4/5, MP4-12C, and has a leg up on any other car in the game I've attempted to drive. Some are certainly better than others, but overall it's a very frustrating experience.

Now that this game is out...

I <3 it. So. Much. I'm just now working my way through career mode; I want to get some solid skills before moving to multiplayer. I'm still in the karting section, but I've been introduced to the turbo 320i. That thing was a serious challenge in the rain at Imola. Countersteer early, counterteer often.

In some ways it's frustrating: it feels like the physics are done REALLY well, but since you don't have any of the sensations you usually get from driving, I find myself caught out on slides and spinning out a lot. I also lock up the brakes a lot too.

That said: it feels like the physics are done REALLY well (yes, I meant to repeat myself). When you get it right - edging across an apex or catching a slide, it's AWESOME. The cars really react the way you would expect them to.
