Venting. Leave critisizms at the door.
I'm doing this here because the drifters don't understand. I don't think anyone really does honestly. #1 Drift atrophy. I haven't been balls out drifting in 2 and a half years now. I've been "drifting" for the past 5 years now. That means 50% of my career has been spent building my car. I've watched ppl come and go from the scene. Some suck ass, some get better than me. It's depressing. I am half tempted to just toss my goodies into another shell until my motor is done but that is so much effort and I am always within sight of the finish line. I am away from the track and no matter how much of my personal time I sacrifice to work on it and learn, I am always so close yet so far. #2 car regret. I preach many things to new drifters. One of the first is "you don't need power". It generally means a newbie thinks that to become a better drifter, he needs more power. When in reality, he just hasn't reached the potential of his current car or is ignoring things such as suspension setup. Course I did exactly what I tell people not to do. In retrospect, I really should not have boosted my M20. The M50T was a logical progression because I fucked my last motor enough that it wasn't worth fixing. I have learned a fuck load about boost (not everything) that I would not have learned from sticking NA but I have lost so much time. #3 Forum hate. I was always into computers. I couldn't afford books and when I could, learning from it to program on a computer wasn't easy. My best way of learning was to literally ask people online. I ran into so many people that knew a shit load but were unwilling to help. So half my problem is getting the knowledge. I get flamed for speaking my mind or what I think is right. When I ask questions, I'm used to getting "go read this sticky" or something along those lines. My life's goal is to be the guy anyone can go to with any question and get a full answer. If you have ever had a PM or email or phone experience with me, I am almost always very patient and give answers to the best of my ability. When I am unsure, I make sure to tell people to verify and where they can. Acquiring and giving knowledge are not things I am great at and it causes me much anguish and stress. #4 car choices. Yes I have a hack job ebay manifold. Yes I'm using an EFI system most people laugh at or prefer chip tunes. Yes I have no cooling upgrades or oil cooling of any sort. All my life everyone has told me "You can't" or "that won't work". I did the best I could with my budget and knowledge constraints and the constant "this is wrong" is starting to get to me. It's at the point where I go to my car, look at it, and wonder if I should just chuck it all and just stop with cars all together. #5 The rarely walked E30 Drift path. Drifters don't like my car because it isn't JDM. My threads relating to anything E30 on those boards get very few replies and they are all along the lines of "cool". E30 guys are almost all against drifting. People have been coming around lately but its slow. On top of that, there is no aftermarket for drifting. The suspension setup isn't very different. I just want to go really stiff. 1000# for a rear spring really isnt THAT stiff. Sure the rear geometry is setup for dynamic camber and will literally grip MORE when you put weight on it. and sure I know that works against drifting. Damnit the car does it well. I am not hopping on the bandwagon and getting an S13. Fucking easy button... I'm really just stressed out all around right now. I should just go silent and lurk on boards, make my car NA, and just shut up but I can't do that. I like being out there and different. Some days its really hard. Reply if you want. I don't want any more shit cuz this is on a board where I can ban people.

Re: Venting. Leave critisizms at the door.
I don't think that go away is going to help anything personally. I like drifting myself and think its cool seeing e30 tearing it up right next to the big shots with their s13's and such. Personally, I don't get what the big deal is when it comes to what car you drive when your drifting. If your good at it and know what your doing, then who gives a shit about what they think. When it comes to whats right with how to tune a car and stuff, I really think its all person opinion. Some people say doing it one way to totally wrong, and other will agree with you. I have now clue about AFR's and stuff like that, but I know that I would probably be setting the motor to run a little richer just cause I don't want to take any chances. About the car choices stuff, I live by the fact that "if it works, don't fix it" meaning, the use of a ebay mani is fine to me. Alot of people are under money constraints, but to those that aren't everything we do it is junk. Trust me, when I see these guys pour 10,000 into their cars and not even blinking makes me a bit annoyed cause then when we do something that we feel is cool, we just get shit on because it's not up to their standards. I just brush it off and keep on going. Its your car and so long as your happy with it, who give a hoot about the other guys opinions! Forum hate, well you're never going to get away from that. Its the internet way of life. If your not up on the newest thing, people generally tend to give you shit about it. Nothing to worry about IMO That's all I got. Buck up dude and get that damn car racing!!

Re: Venting. Leave critisizms at the door.
haha thanks man.
The big deal with my car being an E30 and drifting is that the US is very segregated. Euro/Domestic/Import. To me, Euro IS import but whatever. In the JDM world, hopping from car to car is fairly easy. Most nissans interchange and most nissan owners also own a toyota. So they can all related to each other. It's not that they don't like me, they just can't easily relate so they don't. I don't blame them. I'm always a black sheep wherever I go. I like it and hate it.

Re: Venting. Leave critisizms at the door.
Try having an IX in the e30 world. Sure they are cool and all, but there's hardly anything in the aftermarket for these cars unless you want to spend thousands more. I am jealous of the standard e30ers cause I just don't have the same stuff for my car as everyone else. I'd love to swap a m50 or something like that in, but I just don't have the money for it!

Re: Venting. Leave critisizms at the door.
I've been right where you are Yosh, I think most poor gear heads have, lol. I am all about trying to do it all yourself so you learn something new along the way, unfortunatly there are just some things that you need to turn over to the experts and pay for it. Screw the JDM crowd, I hate the whole scene just because they seem to think the world ends at Japanese cars. It's not that they can't relate, they just don't care to. Matt posted a thread on his Honda on an e30 forum, but guess what, several people chimed in whether they know about Hondas or not because in our basic form we are car people, who gives a fuck where the car was built? So you got the more power bug, it happens to the best of us! Look at me man, I could have a boosted e30 right now if I had just done a stock rebuild and bought soso turbo parts, but instead I dropped an ass load of cash into a motor most people say isn't worth it and I still don't have boost. I don't care though, because it's what I want and I could give two shits what everyone else thinks. We'll see what they say when they can't keep up with me even with 12 more valves, though that may not be for a couple more years. Hang in there man, take a nap, when you wake up you'll be like "what was I thinking, ditch the M50T yea right!" Where did the Yoshi in my avatar go?

Re: Venting. Leave critisizms at the door.
Great motto to pick up; "fuck'em." I learned a long time ago not to ever look for anything from any one. No help, no praise, no anything. If you do, you are expecting too much. Enjoy what you have for when you have it. The world is a crazy f**ked up place and it's only getting worse. Tomorrow you could be left with nothing, so go out and enjoy! You sound a lot like me in the fact you love to learn, you love the hands-on'ness of working with stuff. There is much to be said for that, it's like what goes on behind the curtain. Ya you don't see it when the show is going on but with out it, the show would have never even got started in the first place. So you get mad props from me and a lot of people that take the time to give you a chance. I know that sounds a bit cold, but hey it helps me survive. Anything I do get is like a bonus. Go get'em Yoshi. Tony wants to give you crap though,... Ban him and make me next Mod! /evil cackel
