Who cares which way you're facing when you cross the line?

Done that before, and it sucked. Mainly because with most regions, any cones after the finish are DNF cones. So yeah happened to be my best run of the day, and what do I do? spin through the finish, hit one of those cones, thereby DQ'ing my best time. Ugh.

Nothing to worry about if you know your car right? ;) Hell I ran my slicks in the rain once, wasn't that bad.

Yeah, the m42 really can't get me going fast enough to the point where I wouldn't have enough time to react to something. Lol....

The rain scare me though cause it goes from being very easy to drive and predictable to a real handful. I looped it with Tony in the car. Lol.

Never looped my car in competition... ;) May have to do with the stupid amount of grip those tires have though lol.

you'll never learn the true limits of your car until you exceed them a few times. ;-)

Oh I've exceeded them, it's just that my car doesn't like to rotate, remember? I be very happy to loop it a couple times if it means I can actually get the ass end out a bit.

So today was the last event of the season for me. Furrin Group (the local group that I run with most of the time) does this last one as a more relaxed end of season event just for fun. Coming up to the event, I knew it was going to be way too cold for the R-comps, so I was trying to figure out what to run. The tires I have been running on the street on my RS' are slightly crappy all seasons on the front, and junk/old/camber worn to hell/weather cracked to hell all seasons on the rear, and they definitely wouldn't pass tech.

But, I happened to give a friend of mine a set of Bridgestone RE-11's I had from a previous car, 205/50/15's. They were mounted on wheels that wouldn't fit an E30 (well without spacers anyway) and I didn't have the BBS at the time, so I gave them away. He never used them, and I got them back this week. Had the tires mounted up to the BBS and we were ready to go. They are rather used up, at least on the outer edges (the last car they were on was rather camber challenged, to say the least). But they are still very sticky street tires.

SO the day started out in the mid-30's, and never really got much warmer. Had me a bit worried, I had no idea how well these tires would do when it's that cold, and I realized yesterday I had never raced my car without slicks before. Plus I had figured out the brake issues I have been having lately are largely due to the pads I'm running, which are garbage without a good amount of heat in them

So the day started off to a very frigid start, but lots of cars showed up, so plenty of things to check out before it was time for me to run (worked 3rd heat/ran 4th). We had no less than 5 E30's show up to the event which was awesome, even if somebody *cough* Austin! *cough* still didn't run his car...

So the 4th and final heat gets started. I'm ready to go, have the same butterflies I always get right as I'm about to take my first run at an event. First run was kinda sloppy, getting a feel for the tires, and the lack of grip from the cold. Plus everyone was having issues with cones, so no big deal. Second run was better, but still dirty. Third run, I obliterate a section, take out cones, terrible time, etc. So now it's down to my final run. I'm sitting like 4th, my 2nd run with cones was still good enough to place me there. But, the guy in first is setting some decent times, and I don't want to lose, not here, not at the last event of the season. So it's a do or die, put up or shut up run. And I really don't care for those situations. The car was performing just fine too, brake were getting enough heat, tires were actually sticking way better than I was expecting, so it was all up to me...

And I ended up 0.1 seconds ahead of the fastest time in my class! The guy that was in first hadn't finished yet, but when he did it was just barely slower than my run, and dirty. So that was it, my runs were over, hell the season was over, but my car was intact and I had won my class out of 8 people. And such a close finish was probably the most satisfying win I have had all year, nothing like tight competition right down to the wire.

Last run:

And the best part? I didn't have to change tires back to go home!!! lol after trophies we snapped some pics of all the E30's lined up:

This pic just reminded me, today was proof diving boards are faster...

Awesome! I love when competition is that tight! My last two event were won/lost by 1/10th. What are the off season plans for the car?

Mostly maintanence. I need to replace the driver's rear wheel bearing, and not looking forward to it. Really want to go through the steering and replace most of it, new tie-rods, IE poly steering coupler, and maybe a Z3 rack. Also thinking about rebuilding the diff with an extra clutch in it, not sure about that yet. Once maintanence is all caught up I am wanting to get the 25/22mm sway kit from Ireland.
