Went to Road America for the Grand-Am Race and Nascar

Postby ten2doyle102 » Mon Jun 25, 2012 1:22 am

So my buddy randomly called me up and asked if I wanted to go to RA for the day.... HELL YA! I love that track I have to actually drive on it one of these days. Road America is an awesome track!

Anyway, we got there just in time to watch the whole Grand-Am race which was pretty sweet. Turner had several of there awesome M3's out there and one out dominating on the track. They almost won and if they would have had like three to four more laps would have probably caught the Ferrari leading the pack. However, on the positive side, a BMW powered GT car took first!! :)

PICS!

On to the Nascar Race. Well, it was actually pretty sweet. Those cars are pretty cool up close. Lots of technology. The one thing that I thought was really weird was that they were all set up really...I mean REALLY soft. They leaned so much! I was wild! Plus they lift the inner wheel like mad!

Keep in mind, nascar races are usually at constant G forces and are loaded predictably all the time. There's only 2 real road courses in nascar and the teams seem to completely ignore them. They barely change the setup and have at it. Partially because the chassis is made to lean to the right from the get go, you aren't going to get much benefit from springs at that point. The small time stuff around here, the low budget guys actually have only 2 stickies. They are both on the right side!

nice pix btw. you have a good camera.

Idk about the lower series, but the newer car of tomorrow chassis aren't like the old ones. They are way more symetrical now than they were a couple years ago.

Plenty of good spots to watch is right! :) My friend showed my a path that takes you down to Canada corner which would have been a sweet spot to shoot from.... but getting back up would have sucked! Super steep gravel and dirt! :)

Thanks for the props! :)

They LOOK more symmetrical. I doubt they are under the shell.

Lol Matt if you head under the tunnel and walk around you can get the the grandstands on the outside of Canada corner. Quite the hike but probly my favorite place to spectate from when I was there.

This is true. Probably a horse a piece when looking at the amount of calories you'll burn! ;)

I forget what event it is, but its early in the season that they have track touring there. I hear its basically a free for all. Kinda like how they do it at black hawk on Tire wall day. And its only like $65 to hit the track for an hour! :)

That sounds like the event I was at actually. Although your only supposed to go highway speeds... And I don't think your even required to wear a helmet.
