They are Spec Miata take-offs (205/50R15), which can be found for ~100 a set. From what I've seen, other take-offs are more expensive, though.
I don't think Auto-x is quite enough to get them up to temp, particularly on cold days. As I mentioned, it was probably 25 degrees colder at my second event on them, and there was noticeably less grip than before. That said, they still had more grip than my BFG Rivals (225/45R15) did on their best day.
I think having a slightly undersized tire plays to my advantage a little bit, when it comes to tire temps. But if you're going to be using them to compete, I don't see any reason to compromise like that. The A6/A7 compound should let you run a wider tire without worrying about getting heat in them. Since you're only doing single laps, I don't think you'll have to worry about them getting greasy, especially if you've been fine on street tires so far.

Yeah the star specs have been great, but by the end of my last season I was over driving them. Sucks the Hoosiers are like 800-1k a set new and would maybe last me one season.

Yeah you definitely have to consider cost vs. reward. I'm quickly learning how much more expensive things get as your car gets faster.M20_fever wrote:Yeah the star specs have been great, but by the end of my last season I was over driving them. I wish there was some form of semi-competitive driving series down here. I'm not really interested in competitive autocross, and the only other options are ChumpCar (24h of LeMons) or something that requires a competition license (NASA or SCCA TT). Either of those options costs a couple thousand dollars a year in addition to building whatever car you're going to use.

Yeah, I run with the cheapest governing body in the Midwest and it's still a couple grand just for entry fees. Scca and nasa are quite a bit more, and once you get to wheel to wheel it gets outrageous if you want to be competitive.

Re: Blasphemy101's 2013-2014 AutocrossThread
Yeah, I've always had the mindset to stay away from any kind of real competition, because I know I can't afford it in the end. Autocross might turn out to be my only viable option. At least for the time-being. I graduate this coming Fall, so there might be something more in store for me after I'm out in the "real world", hopefully with a real world job...
