I think those guys are a little bit of everything.... FVSCC guys tend to error on the side of caution when it comes to events. CWSCC... not so much. They are all about bigger, faster, crazier tracks and cars...

So.... I figure why not throw an update on here... it's only been ages since I've done anything on here. Sorry about that.

At any rate... my ice racing e30 has changed a little since I made this post about a year and a half ago....

This was it last year....

mmm.... body roll. I wish I could find the picture I had of it actually lifting the rear wheel about 1" off the ground mid corner. Pretty awesome.

that's not tire smoke either.... The poor little M42 was quite tired when she got pulled... Basically emitted a full on smoke screen whenever I let off the gas. LOL.

Here's the beast now....

This winter I took this car to a whole nother level by swapping an complete m50 swap w/ g320 trans & s52 cams/s52 injectors, lowering springs, Billy sports, ST front sway bar, spherical front control arm bushings, delrin subframe bushings and trailing arm bushings, strut bars and a RX7 caliper swap and a fresh set of BFG Rivals. I also did braided lines too and just put in a 255 fuel pump as the stocker wasn't up to the task. All I can say is it was totally worth it. This car is ridiculous on the track now. Before it was obviously slow, had horrible brakes and non existent suspension.

Things I need to work on though...

1) Relearning to drive the car. Totally different thought process on this than before.
2) Needs the Turner Chip to make the most out of the engine mods
3) Need to upgrade the rear brakes to something else... The bias is all goofy obviously and I am locking the fronts all the time.
4) Still has the stock 4.10 LSD diff in the back. Good for Auto-x, bad for everything else. It revs at 4,000rpm at 70mph!

It's funny how things turn out sometimes.... this thing was supposed to be a parts car initially... Oh well. I think in total I have around $3500 invested into this car. :)

Quite true. I'm strongly considering doing an engine swap on the 87 325e that I bought as a parts car. I only have $500 invested in that so far though.

The fun thing about this car is that since its not mint, I can really drove hard without too much care. The swap just makes all the better

Yeah, my DD is FAR from mint. The body on my "parts" car is in so much better shape, but it's got a non-running m20b27 and someone popped the trunk with a crowbar. If I can get that one on the road I can drive my current DD much harder until it falls into pieces.

This e30 was running... Just smucked up. I was gonna use it for parts but decided it would've be fun to race it.

Been thinking about my bias issue with the front brakes, would just going to HP+ in the rear do much, or should I think about stepping up the the hawk blues? Or possibly some other kind if setup?

So it was another busy weekend that resulted in me pulling the heart from Icy once again. It's been a long time coming so it's not a big deal. For day one when we installed the motor, we found out the hard way that something was loose and bouncing around in the bell housing. I should have separated the trans from the motor before installing it, but my friend who I bought it from had just installed a new clutch and flywheel so I figured.. why waste the time. lol.

The other reason for the motor pull was to do the steering rack. It's been pretty sketchy for some time, but it finally gave up the ghost after a high speed, off road excursion off the track two weekends ago.

At any rate, Here's some photos for what I found in the bell housing. Needless to say I was not too happy. I believe the rod to be from a slave cylinder. I know that my friend had replaced the slave when it was in his car and I think he may have lost it in the bell housing when he replaced the old one. I don't know how else it would have gotten in there otherwise. I think the clutch is functionally ok, just beat up. The bell housing took a beating too, but should be good.

Anyway, if anyone has a e36 rack for sale, let me know. I really want a z3 2.7L2L, but those are pretty hard to find. :)

I need a "new" g260, I wish we could get these things rebuilt for less than another e30 costs...How old is your clutch? Unless it's new I'd replace it while you have the engine out.

It's new. Only has maybe 1500 miles on it. :(

Normally I would agree with that mind set, but it should be OK. I'll just running as is. :)

The condition of the cage doesn't really bother me, if it's new it should be fine. It's like putting an ugly dress on a drunk prom date, might look rough on the outside but you know it's good to go underneath. :)

Yea that definitely looks like the slave bit. This is why all bell housing should have bottom access points. Would make things MUCH easier. But I guess not as structural. Meh. Autos sometimes have them.

Shit works, shove it back on and go. It might be unbalanced though.
