I think I also may have turned the wheel when getting out of the car. I think we aimed for 0.08 on each side.

Matt's club runs a go cart track, looks interesting but I nothing I've had a read desire to try. The local drag strip just put in a drift track, I may give that a shot. It's like 15 min from my house.

Great thing about drift tracks, they make good grip tracks. If it's truly made for drifting, the corners should flow very well. I find that autoxs tend to make sharp angles. Maybe fun to grip but annoying to drift. IE Doable but good flow to a track makes all the difference.

Yeah, i don't think it's a "real" drift track, I think it's a big skid pad that they setup cone courses on. It just started last year but they seem to be getting good turnouts.

I hate cone dodging. Makes sense for an autox but for drifting, it allows you to take all sorts of a fucked up line and still link the entire course without straightening or spinning. It's good for newbies but boring for anyone mid level or higher.

It's fine for me. My car is going to be abysmal at drifting since it's built for track duty, and the driver sucks. The tires on there now are old and basically done so I figured it would be entertaining to expand my driving experiences and waste what little rubber is left on them.

Actually, aside from the lack of steering angle, your setup should slide like butter. In the hands of an experienced drifter tho. I like to setup my newbies with loose cars. But when you're good, it's frustrating and you want a slight understeer setup.

yeah, I'm definitely the weak link. Should be interesting since initiating a proper drift is probably the exact opposite I've trained my mind to want to do. Probably good the only thing I can hit is cones, lol.

Just don't death grip the wheel and you'll be fine. Newbie mistake from road racers is to hand over hand. When you start a slide, the steering wheel will self correct faster than you can steer. Let it slide through your fingers. Let loose as soon as you start the slide if not sooner. Just watch some of my videos.

Been checking some of them out, and I'm familiar with the technique. I used to do the same when fish tailing my Chevelle through intersections.

You can try. For most courses, the hand brake isn't super necessary. BMW hand brakes tend to not be strong enough to lock the wheels though. I've only driven 1 car that could. Otherwise, pump your tires to 60psi, bleed out if you keep spinning. Clutch kick will likely be your best friend.
