What do you guys think about Hankook Ventus HRII in 215/45R17? I actually have a used pair sitting right here next to me at work. Otherwise I'm thinking maybe Sumitomo HTR Z II in either 215/45ZR17 or 225/45ZR17

That's a good question, I really don't know. There's a bunch of numbers on the back of the wheel, but nothing looks like size/offset. One thing I noticed though is they say ROTA on the back, but have Konig logo on the front lip. The story behind them is they were bought from Guten a few months back for an 89 325is with the spacers, studs, and nuts, but never installed. The 2 I have installed in the back seem to sit in a little bit further than the stock weaves, but no rub or anything back there. I haven't tried to test fit the fronts at all yet, so I don't know how they'll be. I might throw those Hankooks on in a little while and see if the 205's fit up front... Although I do kind of like how the car looks with both wheels on it. lol

Post pics of the numbers on the wheels. If they sit in farther than stock weaves even with spacers they are probably for a front wheel drive car. What thickness are the spacers?

I'm not about to go taking pictures at 1am. I'll try to take some tomorrow if I have time. They look like they might have a FWD offset, but they have real BMW center caps. I will look up the numbers on them and see what I can find out. They came with 2 20mm spacers for the fronts. I only put the 2 on the rear so far because I still need at least 1 tire. Most likely going to put the 2 I have in the rear onto the front (only using the spacers if I NEED to) and get a pair of 215/45ZR17's on the rear.

On another note these tires are WAY stickier than I originally thought. I took some very fast tight turns today and didn't slip at all.

Well keep in mind the E30 is the newest BMW sold with 4 lug, so unless they are fill and drill they weren't sold on a BMW. From like the E36 on though they did start using much higher offsets, but they were 5 lug.

As far as clearance goes, from using slicks I have way more clearance on the inside of the rear than I do the front. I have to run a 5mm spacer up front, and the tire barely clears. Rears without a spacer have plenty of room.

I knew they were not original BMW wheels, it's pretty obvious. I just said the center caps were genuine BMW, which leads me to believe they were actually used on a BMW (most likely an e30, obviously), and not on a Honda or vee-dub. Also that they were supposedly bought from Guten parts. I don't have any reason to think they weren't.

Yeah, I stuck my finger behind the rear tire and there isn't "plenty" of room. It's not close to rubbing, but if the rear is that close I'm pretty sure I'll have to use the spacers up front.

Numbers on rear of rim. The only numbers I see are right by the lug holes. Going clockwise from where it says ROTA here are the numbers...

21 3
01
690KG
1775e42
A4/99

Well I know they are 17x7.5, which I'm sure is the first part of 1775e42. Maybe the offset is 42mm? What is offset of stock wheel? Backspacing?

US bottlecaps are et35 and US weaves are et30. What size are your spacers?

So that gives you et22 offset. 215/45 should be fine with the spacers. Your going to want to run the 20mm up front, but I'd get some 10mm for the rear or its going to look funny.

I need some longer bolts. Looks like the bag of studs/nuts is enough for all 4 wheels but I would rather not use them.

Did you take into account the width of the wheels? A few millimeters of offset doesn't mean much if the wheel is a few inches wider. Backspacing is more important.

studs > bolts

Backspacing only matters if your concerned about interference with the subframe, which can usually be fixed with spacers. Offset is where the interference with the fender lip will become an issue, and if thats an issue without spacers, your only option is fender modification or not run the wheels. On an e30 your not going to get that situation until you get to zero offset on a wide ass wheel. That said, your not going to have either problem with the right spacer on a 7.5" wheel. My 16x8.5 et27 K1s will fit a tire with a 10" section width using 8mm spacers in the rear, and 15mm up front which required rolling the fender lips flat and pulling them a lot.
