AWD is overhyped IMO. I did fine with some snow tires on my E46. Still fun. Not as much fun as AWD with all seasons in the snow though.

Yeah. Check out the top gear botswana special haha. They drive across some crazy places with only two wheel drive junkers haha.

It's maybe overhyped, but it's addicting. Nothing like comfortably cruising at 70 on the highway and not feeling like you're about to slide out. It's a preference I suppose. I could live just fine with out it.

Just got my first bill in the mail... Oh god help me.

As a co-worker of mine put it the other day, "All wheel drive just gets you further into the ditch"

I'd say ditch that Audi and take your Dad's civic. Cut your bills down as much as possible.

yeah, if the Audi is making noise like that it needs all new control arms, and a lot of 'while your in there' stuff, not to mention what your going to find when you do tje timing belt...I say sell it and get out from under the payments while you can. The civic would be good, and there are tons of VWs on CL for cheap. Your at a poont where a fast DD is not ideal, and your not going to be going 70mph in the snow with the little man in the car. Get a reliable, safe DD and have a race car to get your kicks.

I'd prefer snow tires and RWD for doing that over all-seasons and AWD anyday, just sayin.' I refuse to drive through winter again without snow tires, no matter what drivetrain.

But from the sounds of it, ditching the Audi seems to make more sense. E30's are fairly cheap to maintain if you can do the work yourself, from what I have heard about Audi's, not so much. Either way, hope things get settled for you, sounds like things are about to get a bit crazier in your life lol.

I don't know tony... I did that timing belt this weekend.. What a nightmare to install. Lol! It seemed like the timing belt was just too short. It was nearly impossible to get on there.

Nick, I have Awd and snow tires.... It's awesome! I agree though that i wouldn't be able to do a winter with out snows. They make too much of a difference.

A lot of this comes down to whether or not I get my dads car. I just don't like the idea of the e30 being my only car. I would have to agree though that the s4 seems like the logical move.

did you crack the cam pulleys loose before putting the belt on? Mine was tight but went on ok. Did you find any oil on the alternator, or in any of the spark plug holes?

The E30 is cheaper to run and pretty capable in the snow with the right tires. Unfortunately, the S4 is expensive to run and yours is probably coming up for some expensive as hell maintenance shortly, both in terms of time and money. Staying in a terrible loan is not worth the luxury; sell the $4 and get a cheaper DD.

We didn't crack the cams loose because my buddy said not too. We got it on once.... Then realized we forgot the dipstick which won't fit with the t-belt in place... Lol. I ended up getting the belt set on both cams and then popping the holder off one said and rotating the cam just a tiny bit which allowed nick to pop the belt on. It was fun.

Also, no oil anywhere, but we did find my coolant leak... Water pump was about to die.

Did your water pump have the plastic impeller or a metal one?
