Heh. It's much easier to manage others in comparison to yourself. I'll catch up. I am a decade older than him.

Finally got around to adjusting the coils. Odd thing is that the driver's side seems to be like 1/4" higher than the passenger's. Weird. The rears are about 2 coils from the absolute bottom. I might just go ahead and put them there. The fronts still have tons of adjustment but the oil pan is already about 3 inches from the ground. I'd like to keep clearance. I'll probably lower it another 1/4" all around and even it out. Call it a day. Drives really nice considering it's 12k/18k lol. Turned the dampers max low to help ride quality.

What kind of coilovers do you like to use?

GC. hands down best kit I've found. This is the most expensive version of their kit. reinforced/shortened/powder coated front struts, mack daddy rates and all that jazz. Only thing it doesn't have that I want is spherical bearings for the RSM. But I'm ok with the poly it comes with on this car.

Thanks for the info - I've sold the springs I bought a while ago for my S2000, and I've decided to move to coilovers. I'm looking into the possibility of eventually getting kits that use the same diameter springs for both cars, if it's possible. That would make it super easy/cheap to swap around spring rates if I ever choose to.

In all likelihood, I'll probably still end up with the J-Stock setup. I have a feeling Turner is going to discontinue it at some point, though...

2.5" ID springs are pretty common. just make sure all the kits you buy use the same spring ID. EG the JOM kit has some crap rear springs you can't swap out.

Yeah, that's what I'm finding out... All the "GC Spec" springs on the Ground Control site are listed as 2.5" springs. Oh well, it's quite a ways down the road. I'm on the hairline of getting a B in a very difficult class this semester. I've told myself that if I manage it I will buy myself a set of coils for one of the cars - likely the S2000, since the E30 has been getting all the love lately.

They'll be discontinued at some point. They can't be a high-selling item.

They're also probably pretty cheap to produce, though. Custom-rated H&R springs + 2 revalved Bilstein SP + 2 revalved truck shocks. Unless they have to alter the truck units to fit the mounting points for the E30...

It might be, but that doesn't mean it's the one people buy. R3vers are too cheap or sheepy (scared of the spring rates). The only market I can see are guys who occasionally track their M3s, and that market is very small. Most M3s are street/garage cars, and the full-blown track cars are using custom setups.

It could also be that the J-Stocks are the "best" because they are the only ones at their given price/performance point. I'm sure they outperform H&R Race/Billy Sports, but they may not outperform a custom GC setup like you have. I HIGHLY doubt they outperform serious motorsports coilovers.

coilovers aren't better. They are simply adjustable within a certain range. Ironically, my coilover setup mimics jstock minus the progressive front rates. Aside from that, height/shock adjustment is about all it has on jstock. If you don't change your rates that often, Jstock is what you want.
