Dynamic's Vehicle.

Postby Space Dynamics » Fri Jun 01, 2012 6:02 pm

Ok, for now this will be quick and dirty, because I just want to get this posted. Hopefully others will be able to give me ideas and suggestions (HELP!) for the future.

I bought this 1989 325is in November 2010 after realizing that, as much as I enjoy destroying mid 90's mustangs with my Grand Prix GTP, I really wanted to do some more autocrossing and eventually the track. The opportunity to get a different vehicle came around when my moms car was on its last leg (95 Chrysler cirrus v6, 215k miles). I said "Fear not mother! Here, have my Grand Prix!" as I smiled, knowing this was how I would get my next car.

Bought it for $1700, with 226k Miles. (Old pictures, now there is less clear coat on the hood, haah)

Here's the list of what has been done to the car, excluding anything that would be considered regular maintenance:

Engine/Transmission:
Spintech 3247 Sportsman Street Muffler
Z3 1.3 Shifter
A/C Delete?
Driveshaft Balancer Removed.

Suspension/Wheels/Tires:
Bilstein Sport Suspension Kit (Bilstien shocks + H&R Sports)
IE Spec E30 Front Sway Bar Kit. (urethane bushings, subframe reinforcements and adjustable end links with rod ends.)
IE Front Strut Tower Brace

Bushings:
IE Billet/Urethane Rear Shock Mount Set
IE Delrin Front Control Arm Bushings
IE Urethane Transmission Mounts
IE Urethane Motor Mounts

After my last run at Thunderhill, I got my car Dynoed! :D

Looks very straight/clean indeed! What are your plans for it?

Damn you no salt using left coasters! Looks like a super solid platform. Is everything stock? Suspension, engine, brakes?

Ahh you guys are fast! When I funally broke the glovebox open I got to see the service records. . . It was an Arizona car originally :D

Updated the main post with every notable modification I can recall.

I am not sure where to go from here. I would love to do MS2, but it kinda scares me.

You can do the MS2 in such a way that you retain the stock wiring. So you can go back to it at any time. I see no point unless you want to boost though.

MS will help in that you can ditch the AFM, bump up redline, improve the tune a bit, and maybe setup flat shift. No huge power gained though. I would upgrade your brakes next if you plan on doing more autox and track days. The H&R sports are really soft too, even upgrading to H&R Race would be a big improvement. A peerless skid plate is also one of the best investments you make for these cars with their terrecotta oil pans.

That is part of it. I really really want to boost it, but I can't see it happening at the moment, with California smog whore laws and $$$. I more want MS2 to make the car run smooth, with a bit more power and possibly gas mileage.

Has anyone done a Centrifugal supercharger on an M20?

Edit: Yes the H&R sport are too soft, if my billies ever go out, I will be putting race ones in next. I'll check out that skid plate too! Thank you!

Yeah, centrifugal has been done. They are expensive though. I'm almost done collecting parts to throw an m90 on my m20 this winter.

I have H&R Race springs and Billie Sports all around on my car. You can check my build thread for pics if you want. Gives a nice stance. I love the spring/shock combo too. Great handling for me anyway. I have yet to do any events though...
Side note: I can't wait for those updates with the supercharger Tony.

I would sooner do an M50 swap than replace an M20 with an M20 if the M20 was free lol.
