Heck, My friend races Spec E30. Maybe I will just sell him my engine and Get an M50 (or wait for it to fail). My car can be down for a while since I still have a way to get around.

Got a ballpark figure of what it would cost? I also see there are a few different engine options when it comes to the swap.

I would do a M50TU or M52 before a non-vanos M50. Not worrying about throwing rockers and being able to do pretty much all maintenance items in less time than a M20 is liberating if you drive the car daily.

Figure out if you are going to run with an autocross or track group that will penalize you heavily for some of your planned mods. For instance, I would never do an engine swap if I were to run in anything run by the SCCA in an attempt to be competitive, because then you're either in unlimited or a production class, surrounded by vehicles you have no chance of beating.

Yeah, with the group I run with engine swaps put you straight into a race class.

For the prices I see, M52 is sounding like the better deal.

I'm shooting for stuff like NASA's TT class, where it's more agents the clock and you just run agents a mixed group.

haha that isn't a fair comparison and you know it. My preference is that M50s are much easier to work on in the E30 chassis. Only thing that is harder is oil pan removal with the motor in the car. Maybe access to trans bolts.

Jeez, now that's some stuff. Really wish I had a garage and my 325is/Javelin to work on! Looking forward to more updates to a clean car!

Its a 1979 Z/28 (82 was the first year of the 3rd gen). So it has a 350, with a turbo 350 3-speed auto. Been sitting since 2004. It weighs about 3700 lbs! And although the engine is more than twice the size of the BMW, it only puts out about 5 more HP (170) and nice torque (270). But it sure runs good!

Just about everything related to the suspension needs to be replaced. After towing it from the previous owners house we took it to our friends shop and bug bombed it inside his shop overnight (I was told the guys screamed when they came in, there were so many dead spiders everywhere). Then we put new brake fluid in, and changed the oil.

The last owner replaced the stock resonators with flowmasters that are quieter then stock. (ARRRGGHH)

Oh the love of dealing with cars that sat forever! My Javelin had been sitting for 16 years in a large garage so I had to redo everything and rebuild the trans as the fluid leaked out at some point in that time. Not a bad looking car though and plenty of torque to get her moving, bet that trans is nice for the highway as well : )

Nice! My dad has a 1980 camaro that I traded to him a long time ago. I hate that he is letting it rot away. They are fun car. The engine power is low because of the smog equipment. The 350 can easily make much more horsepower and torque. They are very nice when done up right. Very nice!

You can't own a 2nd gen Firebird without growing a mustache at some point. GM sold a couple of million of those cars and now on the east coast, they are less common than the first gens. Congrats! What's the goal for this car?
