I'd rebuild it if it didn't cost you so much in shipping, I actually read up on rebuilding those axles cause I found a good website for the passat :P

Was it Passatworld? I'll be able to rebuild it, thanks for the offer though. On a good note, a new set of plugs and the miss is totally gone, she purrs like a kitten now...well a kitten with a bad exhaust leak.

well, saw that the Passat has developed a decent oil leak. Looks like both cam seals are leaking...I should have replaced them when I had the valve covers off, but I decided to roll the dice, and I lost...Now I need to fix the truck so I have something to drive while I fix the Passat. I have the cam seals, so its just going to cost my time, but it involved pulling the cams off so its not a simple job.

yeah, dont have to pull them completely out, just have yo lift the ends the seals are on. Still, sucks because you have to remove the timing belt...which probably means the front clip has to come back off...Im going to see if I can reach tje tensioner to relieve tension onthe belt and just slide the belt off one cam gear at a time.

Is it leaking really bad? You can't just cruise it for a bit?

oh yeah, I'm going to keep driving it until I can fix it. Its just a drip from both ends of the engine, and it smells a bit in the cabin at stop lights and such. I just can't stand oil leaks, pet peeve of mine.

yeah there are a coupme things with this car that make me have a love/hate relationship with it. Today is a good day because its snowing, and wow is this thing awesome in the snow! But the oil leak drives me nuts, and it really needs a new set of wheels since one has a damaged bead that results in a slow leak, and the two rears are slightly bent giving a small vibration...then there is the CEL for that stupid o2 sensor that does nothing but costs money to fix...its a few simple fixes I just dont have time or money for now, and that makes me crazy.

Found a used wheel at a Milwaukee junk yard, so got that swapped out and now all the wheels hold air and are well balanced. Very slight vibration from the rear wheels around 40-50mph but nothing I can't deal with for a while. Front end vibration is gone, but found out when replacing the wheel that the front ball joints are shot...the right one especially. I assume that wheel being out of balance just beat whatever life was left in the ball joint out of it. I can get a complete front control arm kit for $150 shipped off ebay so I'm going to do that after I fix the truck. Car still drives really nice, can only tell the joints are shot at highway speed when behind a truck or on grooved road surface where it gets a little side sway from the slop in the joint. Still leaking oil, hate it but I'll live with it and the bad joints until I get some other house projects finished up in the next month or so.

Biggest bummer is I may miss the beginning of the season. The e30 needs some maintenance that I probably won't have time for until late spring, so the May event might not be realistic for me...Also coming to terms with the fact that my budget this year probably won't allow me to make the changes needed to make a run at the track records, mostly cost for proper tires. :( Car NEEDS new brake pads, new master cylinder at least to be race-able. I have new sway bar links to install, so I'll do that. I think I can get another season out of my Z1s, but I doubt they will be good enough to break my personal best lap times. The reality of having a baby is setting in, lol. Silver lining, every day I miss at the track will be spent with my new family, probably out on the boat enjoying summer.
