Just picked up this beaut.... lol! 1984 Grey Market 323i

Postby ten2doyle102 » Sun Dec 08, 2013 4:26 pm

Well... Tony knows I was going to get this... but it am a little undecided about it for right now. lol! This car was brought over from Europe at some point in it's life by a doctor. It runs and drives pretty well for a car that's been sitting for over a year. Euro bumpers, and a bunch of other random euro goodies on it. The motor runs well and pulls all the way to redline.

Here's some pics...

Its so stupid how they cur holes for those ugly side marker when they federalize them. The ones on your car are huge, I have a set off Court's 323 and they actually have a roundel molded into the lens so they must have been a factory part.

That rust doesn't look too bad if it stops there. How does it look underneath? How bad is the front bumper bent?

With a little TLC she'll look mean as hell! I'll ask my Dad how much he wants for that black sport interior.

Man that rust scares me a bit, but there's no way I could resist that euro goodness! Is the radio OEM??? Has an awesome classy 80's look to it.

Yes... the rust is quite scary. I haven't decided what I want to do as of yet with it cause its gonna require alot of attention. The euro goodness is what made me buy it though.

It also has a an electrical drain from something. I think its the wipers since as you can seen in the one of the pics the wipers are like half way up. They were like that when I turned it off so yeah.

Tony the bumper is bent a little. I may be able to massage it back into shape though.

I forgot too, its got the working rear fogs too. I was kinda surprised to see that. all the lights worked, even the front fogs too. Plus, I didn't know this but the fogs on these cars stay on when you turn on the high beams. I think the US cars turn off when the highs are on, correct?

Oh yeah... and the Odometer actually works... lol! According to the cluster, the car only has about 116,000 on it. :)

No, it must be Miles cause the car has a MPH speedo and a euro tach/fuel usage gauge.

I know. Didn't realize that till I was about half way home. lol.

Any ideas as far as what would cause the tach to not function? Along with the coolant temp gauge? Maybe the nut on the back of the cluster?

I'd go with that nut. The tach specifically is just a signal wire off the coil. There's nothing else to it. I learned a way I could hit the dash just right to get the tach to work. On my red car, I just punch the cluster once after start up.

The temp gauge usually doesn't work in my 318 until I smack the dash, but that fixes it everytime haha.

Interesting, I thought I was the only one that did this... I had to do that with the auto 325i that I had back in Georgia. As for the front fogs, I have individual buttons as to choose when the fogs are on and if they're on they stay on, same for the rear actually.
