reuse what you can, but there are extra wires that will need to be added to the harness.

Though, def go wasted spark minimum if you haven't already. I forget if you are.

Still running on the stock coil right now. I plan to have the car ready for sale by the end of the coming weekend. That gives it a sold month to be up for grabs before I pull the motor our. Pics of the progress we made cleaning it will be up tonight.

On my phone so its kinda hard to tell from the pic, but car looks to be in pretty decent shape yet. Don't know what you paid, but up here they are worth a fait amount yet. IMO fix what you cn mechanically and sell it, partially because I kinda hate seeing perfectly good cars chopped up

It's in decent shape. There are a couple of small dents on the hood. The biggest cosmetic issue is the state of the paint. I don't think the car has been waxed since the 90s.

Odds are the car will be sold; we've sold a couple of cars out of our driveway and haven't had a problem finding a buyer. I've avoided posting what I bought it for, since some of the people I'm pitching it to know I'm posting on here. I'd be slightly happier if I could resell it, because I think it's just a little too clean to be a donor. It'd make a great daily (I keep saying this haha).

That's kinda what I'm thinking about it making a great daily. Would beat the hell out of my POS 318 that I'm dailying now. Actually having thoughts of replacing it with an E36 come spring/summer, and something like this would be ideal.

Come buy it! Haha...

It makes me sad, but I think E36s are better buys than E30s at this point. Around here, they sell for around the same price. I still prefer the E30, because it's what I grew up with, but a friend asked me about them as a project car. I told him a E36 would probably be a better starting point, because E30 prices have risen so much in the past few years.

Eh. the big issue is that the E36s tear out the rear subframes. If you don't get an M3, the E36s aren't worth it unless you part it out IMO.

Even my E46 ripped out the rear subframe.

considering most e36s have clocked over 100k by this point, your going to need to replace the subframe bushings anyway. I agree they are the new budget build BMW, e30 prices are getting stupid. I can honestly say if I eelver get rid of/wreck mine I won't be getting another one.

I hate E36s, I'm tolerant of E46s, I hate any other bmw other than our E30s. The designs went so far away from performance, it's not even worth it anymore. Might get me a 350z next. I hate the looks but it's a sound chassis.

+1.

That car needs just enough work to fix the broken bits that I'd lean towards flipping it and building your M20 instead, and I don't really like M20s.

E36s have some unmentioned critical weaknesses:
- Rear quarter panel and sail panel rust, which occurs from the inside out
- Interiors (at least in the OBD1 models) that have absolutely terrible quality plastics

However, as long as it's cheaper to buy and boost or S52 swap than purchasing an '03-'05 350Z, I'd probably end up getting another (VANOS) E36.

The interior on my E36 seems to have held up pretty well. Granted, it seems like everything plastic has been covered in stick-on fake wood, and the odometer only reads 76k. I haven't found any rust - which isn't usually an issue for FL cars.

I wasn't able to get to the car this past weekend (family in town), but I'm hoping to spend Saturday working on my 'fleet' :)

I closed my glove box one day and the face of the glove box fell off. BMW GLUED it on. No bolts... glue.

I've noticed that (mine's hanging a lil loose)... I have some pretty strong adhesive I plan to use. The material of the glued-on cover doesn't seem so bad, though. At least the latch works (unlike 70% of E30s...) -grin-
