Something about fresh tires and fresh rubber hoses just smells good. Even the distributor cap has this nicely minted plastic smell.

Just don't go sniffing your gear oil. That smells like open ass whether it's new or old.

No pictures right now. It's after 3am and I just want to get home.

Did the timing belt, water pump, cap & rotor, cam seal, cam timing gear, etc, etc, etc, today (well, today and yesterday considering the time). Didn't put on the purple hoses.

Car won't start! I'm not getting spark. The keychain I got with the car has one of those little black plastic fob thingies on it. I'm thinking it might be the immobilizer that's keeping it from starting. Cranks fine, not starting, even with starting fluid, obviously, because it's not getting spark.

Also the stock radio is asking for a CODE. :-P I'm going home!

I actually just checked it now. No fuel, don't hear fuel pump coming on either.

the eta CPS issue strikes again. either one or both of the CPS' died or the reference pin fell out of your flywheel.

Shouldn't the fuel pump come on as soon as I turn the key to the on position? I know where 1 CPS is, where is the other? Also, any pics of the reference pin so I know what to look for? Can I replace without removing the transmission?

On newer cars the fuel pump comes on with the key to prime. E30 factory ECUs don't do that though.

The CPS' in an eta are right next to each other. Should be both tapped into similar spots on the bell housing. The reference pin on the other hand... look up robert's write ups on it back in the day. He managed a crew and some JB weld or something. Most people just take the trans out.

Good info here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=189326

Fixing it with the trans in the car can be done, but it will probably be a PITA. Check that the sensors are good before tearing into the trans. Bentley should have test values for them.

Checked the speed and reference sensors. Both within 10% of 960 ohm as described in Bentley. The ref pin IS on the flywheel. Ref sensor was covered in gunk, cleaned it off and reinstalled. Still no spark or fuel. I'm getting power at the fuel pump, but I'm not hearing it come on. Not sure what wires are supposed to be getting what though, haven't dug that deep into that yet. Also I noticed that both small wires on the ignition coil are reading 12+ volts with key on. I can't find the proper readings anywhere for the - connection on it. Would I be wrong to assume - should be ground?

Last night someone was telling me something about a 50 amp inline fuse somewhere in the wiring harness in the engine bay that could blow causing no fuel and no spark. He couldn't tell me where it was though. Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

it's not in the engine bay, it's in the trunk. If you look at the pos terminal in the engine bay for the break out, there's 2 wires. 0 gauge and one that's like ~10 gauge. The 50 amp fuse goes to that 10 gauge. So if it has no voltage (even with the key out), the amp is likely blown.
