Your car has 2 fuel pumps too, did you test both? The main pump in the tank should only have power to the + side with the key in the on position. You can check for power at the fuel pump relay on the inner drivers side fender also.

Where's the second pump?

The fuse is good on that smaller wire coming off the battery. The trunk lining was obviously removed on that side, possibly to check that already.

Thinking I might have to start pulling some parts from my black 87. Might pull the computer out of it later when I'm done with work.

second pump is in line somewhere. I think near the fuel pump but don't quote me on that one.

Just because your cps ohmed out right doesn't mean they are good. you need an oscilloscope to prove it's getting a signal. how are you sure the reference pin is in there?

Pulled the ref sensor out and looked in the hole while someone took a 22mm to the crank bolt. I unfortunately do not have an o-scope. I should probably get my hands on one.

If you have spares on your black 87, just swap those over. Assuming they are still good.

Gonna go pull some parts from that one right now. Not sure why that car sat in someones back yard for over 2 years before I bought it, so I don't know the condition of pretty much anything in it.

Well THIS doesn't look like a good sign. Maybe this is why the guy couldn't get the black one running. Anyone got a spare working 027 they could part with?

If I get any tows going that way I'll let you know... But for now...

I GOT SPARK!!!

OMG that rush of excitement when I saw that glorious arc of electricity jumping from the spark plug wire to the strategicly placed screwdriver on top of the intake. Got my heart racing! :-)

Car will now start briefly with the help of some starting fluid. Won't stay running for more than 4 or 5 seconds. Intake boot is ripped almost completely in half.

I don't think I'm getting fuel. Possible the lines are gummed up with 3+ year old gas. I drained the tank the other day and refilled it with some brand new 93 octane and a bottle of that fuel system cleaner crap. I have a new filter, but haven't installed it yet. I'll probably do that tomorrow after work.

lol, in all the excitement I forgot to say what the problem was. Turns out the main relay is bad. I swapped in the one from the black 87 and now I get clicky clicky when I turn key. Sounds much more normal. One thing that's not normal though, is the blower motor comes on low whenever the ignition is on. I know the resister is shot because only position 4 on the switch does anything.

Main relay. I haven't seen that be the issue in a long time. I'm guessing you don't have a fuel pressure gauge. You can pull off a line and crank to see if any comes out. That tells you the pump is working but not necessarily that you've got good pressure.

The intake boot being torn will cause the car not to idle and die. Especially if it's almost in half. Fix that first IMO.

You can pull the fuel pump relay and jump it to see if the pump is working. If it doesn't come on with the jumper the pump is likely dead. Your second pump should be along the driver side rocker towards the rear.

There's probably at least 47 fuel pressure gauges laying around the shop. The problem is my boss isn't best known for returning things to where they came from.

The elbow is torn more than half, in fact there's just a small piece of rubber holding it together. heh

I think it sounds more like a dead patient being brought back to life! :-)

ok, in-tank fuel pump on the 3 pin connecter I'm getting +12 on 1 pin, center pin getting roughly 7.5 volts (neither negative nor positive according to the power probe, I have no idea), 3rd pin ground. Between center pin and positive with multimeter I'm seeing around 3.8v, and 8.6v between center pin and ground. The 2 pin connector that I'm assuming goes to the under car fuel pump is getting ground on 1 pin and nothing on the other pin. If I give +12 with the power probe I still get no fuel movement. What are the chances BOTH pumps are shot? Where can I get replacements that won't cost me more than I paid for the whole car?
